Character Development
One of the things VO is lacking, when compared to a MMORPG such as RuneScape, is a clear definition for character growth. It's not clear how many points I need to get to a new level in a skill or what that next level offers. I recently got Level 3 in small weapons on a new character and ran back to base to buy some cool new weapon, but I dont' think I saw a new one there compared to level 2...
And while I'm sure it is documented somewhere, as a noob, I cant find what the levels mean (x/x/x/x). What are the basic skills? I suppose it's on me to dig for it.
I would recommend that part of basic training is doing some action and then 'leveling up' to see how it works. Levels should be gained very quickly in the beginning and then slower for more mature characters.
Of course, I don't want to see VO become a 'level competition' type game - but more of a community or society, but it seems like it could use more of that function.
Overall, the gameplay, graphics, AIs, and community are excellent. Great job building this game.

Obvious troll is obvious.
In the case this is not a troll, I think I have a few answers.
1) It is extremely obvious. If you go to your character page there are little bars that fill in over time as EXP is gained, as well as an actual number counter over then ie, You have 250/1000 exp till 2 and need 750 more..
2) It also says right next to the abovementioned bar things.
Combat License/Light weapon license/Heavy weaps/Trading commerce/mining
They do not affect how your ship flies in any direct way, just what equipment you have access to.
Levels are gained pretty dang fast in the beginning, you just need to find the missions for it. (Like, Beginner combat practice if you have left the tutorial sector)
Hopefully this has answered any questions.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for those things in the game. One last question. I'm a noob, not a troll. Or am I..? What's a troll?
Assuming your a noob - find yourself a Mentor.
