I think the website could use a re-vamping. It has an 'old' look and VO could possibly attract more players if the site was more inviting and modern looking.

I revamp it a little every so often. I have some ideas for quick improvements, but no time to implement them right now. Pretty much as Lecter says.
right on. I really enjoy this game and want to help bring in new players :)

Honestly, the web design is better than that of any other game in this genre. It is simple, easy to navigate, and not ugly. The kinds of people who don't want to play a game whose website puts function before bling wouldn't stick around past their free trial on vo anyway.
I always liked this one.
I agree Ladron, it isn't bad, but I could probably improve it a bit without too much work.

Hahaha, good one Inc. :)
That's great, and true.
I've gotta back up ladron on this one. For me, the lack of flash animation or overlapping frames is a godsend, especially on my old compy. Most game websites don't have a clue how to keep the design simple anymore, let alone functional.
My only real complaint is the, frankly, rather weaksauce search feature here (an artifact from the dark ages, I believe), but I can always get around it by using Google to search the forums directly. Besides, given that the devs are fairly limited by how much work they are able to accomplish in a day, I'd much prefer that they focused their attention on improving the actual game, rather than the supporting website which works sufficiently well as-is.

Yeah, I won't be adding flash components (with the possible exception of adding an embedded version of the trailer on the front page at some point). I personally use Firefox with Flashblock, and tend to design for my own.. use case. Also, as a general company rule, we prefer open standards.
Just in case you haven't already seen this, have a look what bored web designers do.
HEMA is a Dutch department store. The first store opened in 1926, in
Amsterdam . Now there are 150 stores all over the Netherlands .
Take a look at HEMA's product page - just wait a couple of seconds and
watch what happens.
DON'T CLICK on any of the items in the picture; just wait. TURN SOUND ON
This company has a sense of humour as well as a great computer
programmer, who has way too much time on his hands.

Hahahaha Ecka! Wow, just wow.
Heh. Forget the faction system, the economy, and new game features! The devs should incorporate a virtual Rube Goldberg machine into the website! Yes!
Seconded.

Good man.

some things like...quote function in this forum would be cool...at least give us some tags (like the well known bbcode things [quote] and [/quote])
and a map of the VO universe with the status of deneb and the conquerable stations) everything else is fine, IMO.

Detructor: Just do what everyone else does and use italics to denote quotes. We've been over the technical merits and flaws with the home-brew forum software more times than your little mind could comprehend, and we've come to the conclusion that this is the best forum on the internet, just because it doesn't allow avatars or signatures or anything more than basic text decoration.
