Missile Turrets

Jan 29, 2010 Kierky link
These things are uber. Not only do they fly at 190m/s, but their tracking is phenomenal. Not to mention that they detonate on proximity of 20m.

This is completely unavoidable, and kills you one shot. And if you're in a heavily armoured ship, then it kills you anyway, because you can't get away quick enough, and by the time you do start to gain speed, another missile kills you.

A few options to fix.

(1)This turret, if we keep the current velocity, and tracking, and damage, we should make this missile hit on CONTACT.

(2)If we keep the Velocity, tracking and proximity, we should reduce the damage to 3000-5000 PER MISSILE.

(3)If we keep the velocity , damage and proximity, we should reduce the tracking to that of a YellowJacket Missile (Low).

(4)If we keep the damage, tracking and proximity, the velocity should be lowered to 140-155m/s.

Please comment on validity of this claim and possible fixes. Thanks.

They aren't unavoidable and they don't kill you in one shot. This isn't to say that they aren't super gnarly, though.

I'm content to see them not changed for now. I might change my mind once the IFF issues are finally sorted out.

Hahaha, I predicted this from day one of the conquerable station. The missile turrets aren't that bad if you know how to get rid of them. Also, the 20m prox fuse is pretty much the only thing keeping them from being completely unavoidable, be careful what you wish for.

Do not change the missiles turrets. Do post in this thread though, I'll get a real hearty laugh seeing all of the carebears suddenly whine about the ubermissile turrets, now that the pirates aren't the only ones who have to worry about them.

Ding ding ding!

Is it really 190? That sounds a little high. I wouldn't mind seeing the time span of their activation tuned down a notch though; if you have escaped them for the first 30 seconds of their life, it's likely you will avoid death for the next 30.

It's cute that people who never had to contend with defense turrets before are suddenly all WTFBBQ!!??!1!!11oneoneeleven about their capabilities. Whereas before, when someone said "hey, aren't these things a bit nuts?!" they were shouted down as a pirate griefer who wanted easy access to noob kills.

I myself used to think they were too nasty -- then I actually figured out how to deal with them and can now fly around nation capitals where I'm KOS with near impunity. Y'all will get it eventually too. Or you won't. Who cares? All that matters is that with sufficent skill, they're not a problem as they are now. Rise to the occasion, or fail.

But no, turrets will not be nerfed just because there are finally some that will shoot at *you* for a change.

Ill take that as "yes, they travel at 190 m/s"

I have to go with, leave the turrets alone. In all reality I am one of the worst fighter pilots in VO but, even I can avoid/destroy the turrets. This is a simple case of... get killed, get better, get even. If I can do it so can the rest of you.

I'm going to step out on my pirate brothers and agree with the carebears on this one. What they've all failed to mention is the only way to beat the current missile turrets is to be at full turbo straight through the missile near head on. This way it detonates but you're closing at 400iss m/sec and pass it faster than it can do any damage. This is fine for border turrets because our goal is to get past them. At station conquest, it's problematic because we're fighting to destroy the turrets and often also fighting defending players and turboing straight through is near useless. A slight adjustment to station turret missiles to give us a chance to dodge or absorb the damage is a good idea.

aren't these kinda like the only turrets that ever really kill people when on bombing runs? w/e if they are going to get changed don't make their velocity any lower then 175. but you should be pretty closed to pwned if one hits you.

Also i find this thread hilarious

Its unbalanced now...

At least make missile turrets have small armour.

Now that they're shooting at you, and not just pirates, you mean?
Jan 30, 2010 ShankTank link
I agree with peytros that these are the only turrets that ever actually kill anything.

Turrets should have chainfire long range nuets and missiles that can be dodged. The gaus is brutal but slow, but the missiles are WAY too harsh.

Missile turrets are fine how they are now. I spent 15-20 minutes jumping in and out of I-8 today to kill Alloh and Billy the Scarred, who were trying to bomb turrets (and failing miserably - but thanks for the dozen or so PKs, guys). Despite having to dodge gauss turrets, missile turrets, and these two no talent ass-clowns' spam, I didn't die. A lot of charging missiles and/or leading them into rocks was necessary, but it's doable.

The turrets do seem harsh at first but with practice bombing runs are surviveable - it mostly just takes practice. The biggest problem I see at the moment is they are respawning too fast and all at once... I really dont think we were getting 10 minutes before they respawned.

At any rate a lot of fun was had by all.

I agree killing turrets with bombers while being picked off by defenders in fighters isn't fun. The uber missle turrets especially should have a much lower armor. The turret damage is way too high also. It's just not fun to be killed with two shots or one missle salvo. I suggest that turrets have a small weak spot which will kill them with 2000 damage from an energy weapon only. Swarms would not damage this weak spot, they would affect only the uber armor. This way attackers can at least face defenders in fighters.

I'm fairly sure the 10 min mark was made. But then again, I was on the other team so whatever I say has a fair amount of bias in it.

And aye, it was fun watching you guys run into I-8 and explode for 4 hours. :D
