Auto-lock old threads
Every once in a while, a couple of newbs will decide to take it upon themselves to read through old threads, and then forget what they are doing and resurrect half of them. For instance, today the entire front page of the suggestions forum is full of the fruits of pirren's and Alloh's necromancy. This impedes discussion of relevant issues and hugely decreases the signal-to-noise ratio of the forum, in addition to adding additional work for the mods who end up having to clean up the mess.
I know the VO forum is a home-brewed mess, but implementing something like this should be too incredibly difficult; just don't allow replies to threads after they've been inactive for, say, a month or two. In the long run it would greatly increase the quality of the forum discussions.

Oh I dunno, I don't mind if people have a new take on an old thread. Although, er, that usually doesn't happen.
What keeps them from linking the archive and just making a new thread entirely?

Either they A) don't know any better, or B) don't care.
I think it's the former, but I honestly can't be sure.

Nothing, except for difficulty with the search feature in the first place I suppose. That doesn't see to be stopping them now though.
Sorry for that guys, won't necro anymore, i thought it's better to post in old one, then creating new.

I agree pirren.
So I will try also. The "Direction of the game: List of Request For Comments threads" was a shift for me also...
But some old ideas should be revived periodically until realized, or exausted... then maybe a compilation of rejected ideas (like remove FF) could also help.

a compilation of rejected ideas (like remove FF)
Uh, removal of FF is being implemented. Your wishing it would be rejected does not make it so.

Alloh, pirren, PolarBear, etc: The threads linked to in those posts exist for archival reasons only. They have been fully discussed and additional discussion neither necessary nor helpful. If you really do have a new idea about one of those threads (hint: you don't) then it is better to create a new thread proposing your new idea as such, linking to the old thread for reference.
I think the guidelines are very nicely summed up here:
"If your suggestion is new, please post it.
If your suggestion is a significant variation on a suggestion already posted, please start a new thread and link to the old thread in the first post. That way we have some separation of discussion periods without having to flip through pages and pages of stuff looking at posting-dates.
For instance: If there is already an old thread about landing on planets, create a "New Landing-On-Planets Thread" thread and link to the old thread in the very first post. Cover whatever new ground you want to discuss in the new thread. As a general guideline, if a thread is older than a year, make a new thread that references it rather than posting to the old thread."
Note: bold added for emphasis.
