Spoofers

Spoofers would be more plausible if they only projected one type of cargo at a time.

Yes, and the cargo projected should be random, or a spoofer is quickly an add-on that becomes predictable and targetable.

Real players NEVER carry more than one cargo at a time.

That's the point though. The spoofer provides an additional level of deception, but not complete immunity from detection. If spoofers worked perfectly, it would be stupid for pirates to carry cargo scanners at all.

I think completely confusing a pirate should be the spoofer's goal. As it stands, I have 4 new ways to determine to kill a target. Random or selectable cargo is the only way to maintain any kind of edge for the trader. As it stands, very little has changed because a few minutes investigation yields a predictable set of corgoes that with the exception of plasteel no trader would ever carry. Hence, I know they have something else, and if they don't pay, I can assume it's something of value I would like to steal.

Not true. Good traders carry multiple cargo when looking for good trade routes.

But I still consider that cargo scanner/blocker/spoofer are just a preparation for what is to come: Smuggling.

And border patrols, customs, state cargo inspection, etc...

Like, Divinia spices pays a lot inside serco mining stations, but its strictly forbidden to enter. If you try to enter without a cargo spoofer you most likely will be intercept and cargo confiscated or ship destroyed... but bots don't care if you have or not a spoofer, their order is scan and intercept those who their scanner says that carries forbbiden goods.

Also, cargo scanner is great to FAIR prices for piracy. It's a good deal pay 100,000c for a fully loaded moth slug, but same value for an empty Revenant its cheaper to try evade and die.

Alloh may be right. Personally, I can't see using one against pirates except for the novelty value.

I would like a spoofer that shows something BESIDES tequila that I am carrying. Like 1 cu of soda water. Or 1 cu of tribbles. The duty fees at these stations are KILLIN me.

Agree with Alloh. IMO soon there'll be more sense in spoofers against NPC, because devs can make Scanner Blockers "KOS addon".
But anyways, i don't believe some1 can fool real pirate (not NPC) with spoofer. Result of using it will be quick and deadly for trader.

About the smuggling part: they should fool npc pirates, yes, but I think they definitely should not fool nation space strike forces and turrets. The goal of the possibly-soon-to-come smuggling is to make a mode of trading where there's a very high chance of dying if you even load a Centaur up to its 48cu limit, where the only viable method would be 10cu in an Atlas X and even then you have to gauge how much cargo you're going to load on that run based on your skill.

But this topic is about scanners versus players. The only viable use for a scanner I see is if you're carrying something that the pirate will blow you up for anyways: like 140 LENBs, Gauss 3s, AAPBs, Widowmakers, things like that... So here are a few ideas:

1) Any cargo displayed will be in bulk form. People only carry things in bulk nowadays (120, 140, 200 x something).

2) The cargo scanner should tell the trader what cargo they're spoofer displays. Right now I can just ask them what kind of cargo they have.

3) There should be a wider variety in what a scanner will spoof you with so pirates can't memorize every possibility. This won't break our memory in two, no, we can easily right it down on paper if our memory's not good enough... but as the types of possible spoofed cargo begin to pass a threshold the possibility that they're actually carrying that type of cargo increases.

4) This is possibly the most important: the types of spoofed cargo should be much more valuable. None of this carbonic, coolant, recycled plastics crap. Heliocene Ore, Lanthiac Ore, Deneb Rum, Cybernetics, Military Research Supplies, and maybe even one with Sedina Chocolates if the bribery really outweighs the risk of being destroyed.

5) And the simplest: make a spoofer variant that reads someone's cargo hold as empty. This one should be a 25% drop from queens so that it's much less likely that a trader has it and so pirates won't start killing everyone with an empty cargo hold.
