Mercenaries

I hope this hasn't been suggested previously... Here goes:

In real life there's a 3rd factor involved in commercial shipping and piracy: Mercenaries. There's a guild that exists that does that already: VPR. Why not complete the formula and allow missions and or bounty rewards for notorious pirates?

The system could have a weekly log of pirate activity (maybe tracking PVP kills and NPC convoy kills) and then spit out the week's notorious pirate and set a bounty list for maybe the top 10 pirates.

This may encourage players who never would have wanted to PVP in the game to give it a shot.

There could also be a Pirate's target list that does the same thing and tracks "heroes". Missions could be picked up by pirates to hunt down and collect bounty on hero players and characters.

If players are worried about being griefed because of these bounty lists. There are two options. Log onto a different character and wait out the week or pay a bribe (a money sink for the game's economy).

Hahahaha...whew. That's funny.

The idea itself, though, is a good one.

imax, Thank you for your input.

However, the bounty system is gone because of essentially PRECISELY this feature:

Pirate A would do dastardly deeds for a week and get placed onto said bounty list.

Pirate B, who is a good friend and guildmate of Pirate A, would kill Pirate A, say, 20 times and make lots of monies. Pirate B and Pirate A split the bounty money.

Pirate B takes the hit next week for the dastardly deeds.

Rinse.

Repeat.

But, thank you for your suggestion. You have to understand that many features which seem at first blush to be common sense are not implemented in Vendetta-Online, mainly because we have a VERY creative subculture of players who exploit EVERY opportunity to, well, "game" the game. These players are an extremely valuable resource since they are essentially the devil's advocate "Small Group" that exposes holes in the game before THOUSANDS of players follow suit and expose the holes in the game.

We've been there, done that, moved on.

I've been thinking about what is really "fun" in the game. It's not grinding for XP, or driving a moth for credits. It's exploits. Farming laws, using the turrets to kill connies, bulk trade selling, etc. I think we should continue to have these cool exploits, so players can enjoy using them. After all, you gotta earn credits to fight, and it may as well be fun.
