Ability to buy/sell ships between players and transport them.

Nov 05, 2009 Restayvien link
I've just realsied I have not actually tried to do this, but it's not immeditaely obvious that it's possible if it is.

Is there any way to transport a ship within another ship? I.e. A moth looks like it could carry several (perhaps dismantled) Centurions. It would allow players to move ships from one station to another, without having to leave one behind (whichever one they arrived in). Might add another dimension to trade.

I realise there is probably a reason this hasn't been implemented, but I'd be interested to know if it's a possibility.

Either that, or it HAS been implemented, and I'm wasting my time. ^^

Nope, hasn't been despite being requested every few months by some random noob or bored vet. I think the widgets for them exist though.

traders commonly use a passing capital vessel to transport their moth xc. Just dock with the cap ship, and enjoy the ride. glad I could help.

Lecter - thought as much. I'll look around for them.

You won't find them anymore, I just know they exist because they used to be a convoy drop. Even then they didn't actually work as ships.

Yeah there was a bug that allowed you to jettison your own ship as cargo, then pick it up again as cargo with another ship. I don't remember if the devs culled the database of those or not, I might still have a govbus in a moth hold somewhere.

This feature needs to come back.

Ehh. I don't think being able to trade usable ships would be very good, it has too many possible exploits. Got a serco alt that wants a valk but no faction grinding? make an itani account and sell it between em....

So?

Just enforcing the standing requirements on player-player trades could solve that.

Yeah but enforcing standing outside of nation space is dumb.

Money talks.

Uh, no, that's a terrible idea. You'll note that there's nothing in place to prevent N3 sales to the other side by a player turned arms merchant, much less anything to prevent all sorts of subfaction, mentor point, badge, and/or level requiring gear from being sold to those not otherwise able to obtain it.

And that's a good thing. What's needed is some sort of consequences for making such a sale while failing to avoid some sort of twitch skill dependent monitoring.

"Yeah but enforcing standing outside of nation space is dumb.

Then surely the blindingly obvious solution is for the limitations to be reduced in grey space, as they are currently in stations.

"What's needed is some sort of consequences for making such a sale while failing to avoid some sort of twitch skill dependent monitoring."

Large standing reduction with the manufacturer...or if items had pre-set prices then simply make them extremely expensive (or take it the opposite way and give them little/no monetary value).
But yeah, I guess it would take some tweaking.

In my economy post, which I will continue to link to, I say a bunch of stuff.

Two things I said in the post in relation to this are the Bar trade option, where you can trade anything in your station inventory to another player at the station. And, also the idea that if you sell something to a station, it is then in the station's inventory and can be purchased by another player.

With the Faction issue, you still need to find a buyer that has either the license or faction to purchase it first. Or just get lucky and find someone who sold to a station for some quick credit.
