Stop letting people spawn multiple voys

Nov 02, 2009 CrazySpence link
If someone spawns and cancels a voy that should impact their standing and not let them take another for several minutes

If it gets cancelled a few min down the road no big deal but within the first 2 min if its cancelled smack their standing

Yes the evil doers will still be able to spawn at-least one voy to eat but not more.

CrazySpence all your suggestions are the same: "Decrease other peoples fun for no reason."

Well I actually agree with this one. It isn't for no reason; it doesn't make sense that we should be able to spawn an infinite number of Behemoths to chew up.

Needless to say, if anyone takes an escort mission and looses ships or doesn't stick with the whole route, we should "smack their standing" as well. Otherwise it would be horribly inconsistent.

Impavid, I like fun but explotfest isn't fun

ladron You are correct, however if you do deliver some ships perhaps a reduced faction increase or none instead of penalty as the reason there is a convoy is to make sure at least one ship makes it

It's not fun for YOU, but we don't all have to play the way you do right? It's not any more an exploit then jumping on a trident and riding the mission to the end while you watch Hannah Montana and eat popcorn. At least we're working for our money.

Your further explanation reinforces my previous point. If this is implemented it should be done all the way, so that "goody-doers" who fail their escort mission also get penalized.

The real problem is when a single cappie is spawned for a voy. Some players will cancel it and try again.

If cappies carried cargo like they're supposed to, that wouldn't be an issue. And if NPC voys ran a bit more regularly, this exploiting wouldn't be an issue.

Ok, so, we'll definitely be preventing this somehow (not faction loss, probably just a respawn timer per player or something), as spawning bots over and over again is a potentially scary resource drag on our servers. Especially with the runaway sector crap we've been seeing.

However, what is the underlying issue here? That people want to be able to fly in capships, and keep "rolling" until they get one? Or they want to blow up a whole lot of convoy ships? I have no problem with mitigating the gameplay problem while we also fix whatever "scary resource-suck scenario".

Oh, no worries there, Inc. We kill them all right after we spawn 'em.

As for cap ships... cap ships are actually what people are trying to AVOID right now. None of us want to ride in the damn things; the pirates don't like 'em because they carry no cargo, and the escorters don't want 'em because, again, no cargo so no money.

There are multiple underlying issues, I think.

First of all, some people want to "fly" a cappie and keep trying until they get one.

Secondly, some people want to make ridiculous amount of money on the escort and keep trying until they get one with 4 moths.

Thirdly, some people want to pirate stuff, and since there is nothing out there to shoot most of the time, they spawn a ton of convoys, abort them, and then kill them for loot.

The first two could be fixed by specifying the difference between cappie escorts and regular escorts. Honestly there shouldn't even be such thing as a pure-cappie escort though. I'm pretty sure that a dude in a vulture isn't going to make a difference if something that could legitimately kill a connie attacks it...

The third one could be fixed by making NPC and player traders more common, and by adding piracy missions at Corvus stations (similar to, and ideally replacing, trade guild missions there).

A fourth related issue is that a lot of people are also annoyed by the fact that people can use escort missions as a fast, literally effortless, and unlimited source of income. That part is really annoying because we have to choose between playing Vendetta and playing Gold Farmers IN SPACE. It's also annoying to those of us that roleplay pirates when other people play Gold Farmers IN SPACE because they completely break any sense of reality.

It would help a lot if the cappies were only in escorts with more then say 3 or 4 ships... Escorting a single cappie is a bit silly in most respects not to mention un-profitable.
