It would be interesting to have it depend on roid density and translucency (please note intensive property), ranging from .5 up to 3 seconds.
Am I imagining ice yos to be translucent?

Ice is translucent, but you cannot actually see through them, only into them. We experimented with full translucency, but it's a lot slower.
Anyway, I think a static re-acquire time is fine for now. One or two seconds. For the moment, I just need to find out the status of that code.

I don't like artificial limitations that can not be effectively enforced on plugins. It has already been stated that there will be a plugin that addresses this problem.
Roid occlusion should only work for as long as you are occluded.
I think that once you select a target, you should auto reselect that target, regardless of time, and regardless of if it was lost to occlusion or distance. Even if the target warps out and back in.
A plugin could do all that. Why make things that require a plugin to fix? Why handicap the guy that doesn't revolve his gameplay around plugins? At what point do I trash this game and start posting reviews that say it is for hackers only? Probably at about the point I feel that I need a plugin in order to compete. Why make anyone go there?

While I hate the way Roda made his point, the fact that the ability to re-aquire can be delivered through a plugin renders an "artificial" time restriction somewhat pointless. Nevertheless, let's implement something for now... Maybe later we can extend or shorten the reacquisition time interval.
This is a toughie: I hate carebear gameplay, which auto-reqacquiring definitly promotes...but I hate mod kiddies more than just about anything ever.
Personally, I don't know why your target computer wouldn't be able to reacquire a target after occlusion no matter how long it took. Obviously, if you target someone or something else, it won't, but if you're focusing on one person to the exclusion of all else, there is no good reason for your target not to be reacquired. It doesn't make sense to artificially restrict the technology like that, and it doesn't really give much of an advantage at all, it's mostly just a convenience.
The main time I can think of where something like this would grant an advantage would be in a furball, if you're targeting someone who tries to lose you around a roid, and is occluded for 5 seconds or something like that, and then tries to come at you from a different angle to surprise you. There are two possible situations here: 1. you are in the middle of a furball, so once you lost your target you switch to a different target, and so would not automatically reacquire anyway; and 2. you are focusing really intently on this target, so you're looking out for him, despite other people probably shooting at you all the while. In situation 1, the target surprises you. In situation 2, the target doesn't surprise you, because you saw him in time. This differs so little from the current situation that I don't see any reason to artificially limit it.
Add those arguments to the fact that if it's artificially limited then a plugin can get around it trivially, and the case for no time limit seems overwhelmingly strong. Reacquire the target if you haven't targeted anything else between times, and let it go at that, I say.

Your targeting computer CAN re-acquire targets regardless of time... so long as your targeting computer has the latest targetless firmware ;) http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/9/17440?page=9#275080
Lecter, out of sheer curiosity, why is it that you dislike people who create plug-ins, mods and scripts for games?

I look at games that allow script kiddies the same way I look at games that give combat advantages to the fat, lazy slobs who have the time to grind up their levels and quest for epic lootz. It's the same thing.
