to get more people in game

some drastic measures need to be taken and these are my sugestions. idealy VO would move from indiviudalist to more guild oriented gameplay

all weapons and cap ships and possibly ships that are not nation specific become player produced except hive weapons i;e crafting takes place as the main focus. you take the current weapons we have know and install "blueprints" for them once a player gets a blueprint they get the list of matieralis needed to make said weapon and then sell it. if this was expanded to ships and capital ships much of the economy would take care of its self

secondly mining becomes the backbone of the industry with the rarer ores being in greyspace. once someone aquires enough raw matieral to build a cap ship they must move to grey. explanatiion, nation space does not wont citizens to have that much fire power in their own space. this would require making capital mining turrets which would go on a trident and then a teradon.

thirdly we need a distinction between mining and trading ships and combat ships. to force people to work together mining ships should not be able to rearm themselves to put out as much or more firepower as dedicated combat ships this means taurs and atlasas need to be nerfed and a whole class of pvp ships be created along with dedicated mining and trading ships. to force teamwork we need to redo the balance and not allow trade ships to be combat ships or combat ships to be tradeships.

fourthly player owned space will open up a world of player run opertunities with newbs forming guiids mainly industrial guilds to make weapons and mine ores to make ships trying to expand to greyspace to make even more money. once actual winning and losing mean more then spending a few credits on a ship and the rewards become teritorial conquest i can see the game opening up to a whole new crowed

and finally something i personally would like to see is a new line of uber ships that cost a lot of money but gave something to work towards

wrong forum, but great suggestions. Guilds have a tendency to keep people driven to stay in the game so it only makes sense to increase the population you make guilds have a purpose.

Ship manufacturing sounds like a lot of fun. I'd definitely come back for this stuff!

No, on the contrary, I find this to be a very bad suggestion (and yes,it's in the wrong forum).

A) Crafting is planned (last I heard). The developers are working on it when they can. Let's trust the devs, here.

B) A nation would especially want people to sell their ores to themselves, so that they could build more ships. Also, what with capital ships and docking problems, the mining capship should have a dock so moths or the like would be able to unload them.

C) You say 'redo the balance', but not how. To completely disallow trade ships to be armed is a very short-sighted measure, since a turret on a moth could make all the difference (if they get decent targeting/tracking) between a successful haul or total annihilation.

D) Has been suggested umpteen times, and I see nothing new.

E) No. Just no.

Much of what Toshiro said. I do agree with the suggestions which have been suggested before in principle.

I do agree that a significant shift should be made to make group play more necessary and enjoyable, however, I do not want to see the ability to play as a maverick eliminated.

Manufacturing would also have to become realistic so that it does not require 15 moth loads of items from all parts of the universe to create one cube of finished product.

The suggestion to nerf trade ships even further- Hell No. How freaking easy does the pirate community need it to be to kill a trader? Due to current game design, it is impossible to defend a trade ship against a determined attacker. On a character long deleted, I have killed pc moths with three other player ships defending them and only died when I turned around to engage the escort after destroying the moth- and I'm not even good! Make it possible to effectively defend a ship and I'll be willing to discuss this rationally.

Peytros, I hate to say it, but certain members of this community have made it abundantly clear that will make loud, unintelligible noises in response to any good suggestion you make; presumably they took something that happened in game too personally and developed a grudge against you, and are now determined to shout down anything you say regardless of its merit.

In light of this unfortunate situation, I suggest that you make a new account on the forum with an innocuous name for the purpose of posting your suggestions. I'd recommend that you also use proper capitalization, punctuation, and grammar in your posts on that account to avoid giving away your true identity. My prediction is that your detractors will stop bellowing like angry mother cows and either engage in rational discussion or just sit the conversation out. It will be rather difficult to have a legitimate discussion about these ideas until then.

ladron... you over-dramatic char you.
I think the fact that nearly everything here has been suggested before, combined with his post to the wrong forum, has made this thread an easy mark for disapproval.

whey pey says things worth listening to (as he has done a couple times in my memory), we do listen. He just has a habit of repeating without considering what has come before, and not to mention that he doesn't think through the ramifications of this actions (case and point: if you die, you don't get paid). This tends to happen due to a tendency to propose a fix something he deems a problem without considering the overall effects of such a suggestion.

ladron, if you think pey's suggestions are terrific, that's fine by me. but I find that we rarely agree on things anyways.

uh we can always move this to suggestions its not like its the end of the world.

and toshiro and death fluffy i didn't not mention the moths i was strictly speaking about taurs and atlases. both of which can run like no other. Not moths which i think are fine as is and in the taurs case put out a lot of firepower. Turrets on trade ships is a good thing. But being able to out run and out gun another dedicated combat ship is not a good thing.

Also i was not saying that the balance needs to be redone now it was just to go along with what my idea of vendetta 2.0 could be like

and fluffy yes i do agree that the amount of materials needed to make weapons or ships needs to be reasonable

edit: let me clarify my idea about crafting. Mining stations would turn into refining stations and we would add a new type of staying the manufacturing station (or in some cases a mining station could be a refining/manufacturing station) a guild brings in the required amount of materials to made X amount of neut 2s. Once the neut 2s are made the guild can choose to ship them across the universe into any station and put them up on the market. This would create player run trade routes and defined markets owned and operated by certain guilds and create price wars between players. So say PA is the main supplier of neut 2s to the sedina system but ONE wants to move in and sell their neut 2s in sedina. ONE could start a price war or pay another guild like CHRN to attack PA shipments of neut 2s forcing them out of the area. The same would apply for rare roid fields and mining rights

Ladron, are you naturally this overly sensitive? Exactly what in the messages prior to yours qualify as "loud, unintelligible noises in response to any good suggestion you(Peytros) make"? Could it be OMG! that he was being teased by multiple persons for putting this thread in the wrong forum and reiterating suggestions that have been discussed in some cases to death before? I'm sorry Peytros. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings :P

Peytros, its not that I completely disagree with your reason for wanting to nerf trade ships like the atlas or taur. Obviously, my preference is to leave them as they are. However, as I said previously, I can't honestly enter into a discussion about reducing a ships ability to defend itself without their being in place a means for another ship to effectively defend it. My opinion is that at this point in VO's development, that does not exist. As a side note, a fully loaded atlas or taur are far less effective in combat than one which is empty. In most cases I personally fly unarmed ships, though I have been known to have mines or swarms on board occasionally- because if I need to make a run for it, I have a little more acceleration if I'm unarmed.

That said, I absolutely agree with manufacturing. Its one of the things I'm hoping for that keeps me from leaving.

Otherwise, I think we are roughly on the same page about everything in this thread except nerfing the trade ships. I don't know if you are right about guilds being key to retaining players, but I think you may be heading in the right direction. The most meaningful time I've spent in game has been doing things for the benefit a group or guild- This is what the central hive and greater Deneb missions are supposed to encourage, and also why I believe the dev's recently enhanced the queens shields.

and here a suggestion which will get my head chopped off: make the universe a lot smaller.
currently the "number of players" vs. "universe size" is so that players will ALMOST NEVER meet coincidentally! if you meet someone, then it's mostly because it's an arranged meeting.
make the universe smaller and enlarge it again once the player count rises.

erasmus23, the reason it'll get your head chopped off is not the one you think. The reason: it was discussed in the thread below less than a month ago.

Nice idea peytros. From my noobside, it's really the thing that highers interest to the game.
