Ignore radar occlusion of a roid if you are within 5m or so of it.
The idea is simple: when you're close enough to the asteroid or in it's sphere, then you will be able to see through it on radar. This will help the gameplay of roid occlusion because right now, the asteroids are useless for ambushers. To ambush, you need to know the person's there, first.
This would also have the side effect of fixing a few bugs... for example: ships fighting in a hollow roid will be able to target eachother.

Though I've found that groups can be useful for having one member of the group lead an unsuspecting enemy towards you (and since you can see your group members on radar that's fine). Radar occlusion should increase group tactics, though it can also be very helpful for throwing off attack trajectories in 1v1 fights.
I understand the need to see on the other side of roids for surprise attack purposes, but I do not believe that such attacks should be under-takable by one person (at least not without the help of a sensor of some sort).

I believe the devs are already fixing this one (they have already in the newbie sectors).

Right now, the biggest thing is visual scouting. The jump-in animations are enormous and last for at least a little while. these could tip off someone hiding in the roids and keeping a sharp eye on the wh or other common warp-in points.
