please put tridents back in convoys
voy piracy is probably the most boring piracy in the game right now but is there any glimer of hope for tridents coming back in? 300cu of cargo is just the right amount to get some good group piracy on taking out a capship and spliting the loot. the teradons just seem out of place for all but the most valuable cargo
A teradon in a trade convoy is like bringing a nuke to a knife fight.
We haven't fixed the warping-to-nowhere docking issue yet. Teradons are just standins for tridents until we fix that. Teradons are around the same size, and help test the changes to the navigational AI.
yes, but teredons are much stronger than tridents. on the plus side, maybe i can lure somebody shooting at me into accidentally hitting the teredon and making it let loose on them.
LNH, some folks have already been doing that in B8. I think it's more annoying than anything since the sort of pilot that's bringing voys down knows how to judiciously serve destruction.
A newb on the other hand might not notice the lumbering hulk in front of them...

The Teradons are fine as the standins they are right now, I can still solo a convoy with a Teradon in it with just the right kind of evasive maneuvers and the orientation between me, the target, and the Teradon. I also love to see the looks on the faces of escort players (figuratively of course) when there's a Teradon in their group and all of their Behemoth Heavies still get wrecked if I set myself up properly against a convoy.
The problem is that we like to group up when we take down convoys. We love the thrill of taking things down in packs and I think that the content in the game should encourage that. A really awesome way to do that is put a capital ship into the convoy, but it just doesn't work with the Teradon:
1) It's impossible to take down, if you take its shields down (requiring atleast two people with ammo weapons who have to reload and come back really quickly) then it just has way too much armor to take down in the small number of hops in a convoy route, and they're just too heavy to stall by any means... that just makes it frustrating.
2) Even if you take them down, they've got no cargo!
So good luck getting Tridents back into convoys, I guess you could do it by denying people access to dock inside them as if they're loading every spot in the ship with cargo or something. Also, 300 cu of cargo is fine, anything more than that would just be a bitch to haul back to the station... but can you make it so that everything in Tridents has a value of >2,000 cr/cu? It would be anticlimactic, I think, if a group of pirates took down a Trident and it dropped 100 free power cells as the current Behemoths commonly do.

Realistically speaking, it makes sense to have warships accompany trade convoys if pirates are a serious threat. It's what they did 200 years ago, it's what they do today. So why not a couple of thousand years in the future?
