Development Diaries/Informing the userbase.

It's quite a simple idea, not really for the forums, not really for in-game, but I'd say more for the website.

The development wikipedia is down, when you try and locate it from the "In Progress" page.

I think it would put alot of people at rest, make people look forward to things and such if there was some sort of development diary or some sort of monthly/fortnightly/whatever web page that one of the dev's fill in (they can take it in turns) to talk about what they've done, what worked, what didn't, what they're planning to do, what they're NOT planning to do that they know the userbase think they are, some interesting information about what they do maybe?

You get the idea, it would be nice to be able to see the dev's perspective, basically what I'm saying is it'd be alot nicer to here a month or so before that the devs are looking into a "new repair module" and look FORWARD to that, and then get to see it released. I think it'll bestow confidence in the userbase (more so than already, heh) and it'll also grab alot of people's attention, maybe making them subscribe for an extra month to see what will come of the latest dev's thoughts they had posted.

Sorry if it's a stupid idea, heh.

Just thought it's not that "far out" and not exactly an incredible change to VO, but does have several positive effects on the community as a whole.

Yep, the "project roadmap" is a good idea, and the devs are "supposed" to work on it (the devwiki, esentially), but that might have to wait a bit, I think they're busy with a few other things.

I'm assuming you have already perused the rest of the forums and have seen how communicative Guild is with us, and that this suggestion is more about suggesting a format.

They want to reveal their Trac system so that we can see what's on the development agenda, but Leebs is correct in that they're currently too busy doing things to write about them. It'll be one of those things that appears one day because Incarnate was waiting for somebody to complete something and didn't want to be unproductive.

I doubt a diary format would be used because it would be too time-intensive. We have the News for that, I guess.

Hmm ok, thanks for the thoughts.

It is a good idea. We used to do something more like that, when we weren't quite so spastically responding to different bugs and issues that crop up, and trying to wedge everything else in between. Unless we have some major change in funding and size of the development team, we probably won't have hard-and-fast "dates" in the foreseeable future. We can, however, have milestones and a general order of priority (even that shifts, but it can all be posted, with why, and stuff); along with a display of the future design documentation, so people can see what's "on the horizon" and how it may work. That's more of what I'm working towards.

Your idea is a good one, but as others have noted, it's tough to juggle with everything else, and has been a "work in progress" for a ridiculously long time.

Well obviously be slightly careful with the dates aimed for and things, simply It'd just be nice for the VO staff to give it's userbase some hints on it's future direction, even if it's subject to change.

Rather than player speculation, which usually stirs unrest.

Not enough people read this:

scroll down through the many release notes read the more narrative posts. Incarnate often lays out their intended direction there. Sometimes the direction is laid out in the General forum in the new version posts.
