new music

Aug 14, 2009 hoov456 link
after playing vendetta for a long time I have found that the same in-game music has become very boring. I'm not suggesting we replace it, just add some more. Different music for combat, different music for each station, different music for each sector, even different music for Serco, Itani, UIT & Greyspace systems. It's just an idea, but it would add more fun and suspense to the longer wormhole missions if we had different things to listen too.

I've never heard of you, so I don't know how long "a long time" is. I mostly look for music that sets the tone in a given area, but after that I just hope for something that won't drive me further insane over time. What sort of music did you have in mind?

Never heard of you either.

Would be nice, but as all things prolly won't happen anytime soon.
For now you are left with turning ingame music off and playing your own.

I know, they still have "more important things to do", but personally I think the game play experience is very important. It just needs more variety, more suspense. If I jump into a hive sector or a sector full of orun collectors I get the same music, BORING!!!!!

Indeed.

well, i have a thought. what if someone were to run an outside site where they played music with different channels? i mean, even a vent server would work....
different categories:
Rock
Easy Listening
Vendetta
User Submitted (?)
etc

it could work, but the user submitted would have to be monitored and you could have a problem with copyrights. Perhaps a radio, with different channels, you could change the channel on the chat bar (/rchannel rock) there could even be news with updates on best spots for mining, new missions, trade rates, border skirmishes, ect.

Copyright infringement.

Lack of funds.

Lack of manpower.

Lack of will.

Many reasons why an ingame radio will not be done, nor new music added soon(tm). For now, just use iTunes, it's how nearly everyone in any MMO gets by.

For a while screwball of TGFT ran a VO radio station , though it wasn't part of VO itself.

Problem really is that VO is played by a wide variety of folk, all of whom have different musical tastes.

Yeah, I doubt that I could convince Incarnate to have a "Static X" channel.

Where'd screwball go? I enjoyed "Radio TGFT"

i think this suggestion has a lot of merit. traveling long distances gets very boring listening to the same music. it would be a lot more engaging if different zones had a different theme music similar to VO's current soundtrack (possibly from whoever created the current music), but different so that stations, wormholes and skirmish sectors would have a different theme. bonus points for different music in itani serco UIT and grey space.

I've been thinking about something along the lines of what you are suggesting for quite some time, Rejected.

What do we think about themes? I envision some sort of March/Horns/electric guitars for Serco, Asian Zen/keys for Itani, and maybe Electronica for UIT? Perhaps something more ambient for grey.

sounds great!

Having played MMOs that have "theme" music or any music, I have found that it all gets old and stale. You spend enough hours listening to the same set or sets of theme music....

iTunes ftw...I think there is even a plug in to control it in game.

itunes, bah, vinyl is still the way to go.

I wouldn't want to do one song for all of one nation - that would be maddening. I had some notion of a full theme for the capitols, and a few less complex versions for more distant sectors of nation space. I'm less sure of station and jump sectors - perhaps they'd have a distinctive drone or sound.
