Dynamic (hive-like) warfare in deneb

Aug 12, 2009 drazed link
Currently the deneb skirmishes seem to happen in random sectors and I've heard many a noob that stumble into deneb say "EEEK A CHECKERBOARD!" or similar, this isn't what I would consider a great first impression.

What I suggest, is to instead model the border conflict on the dynamic hive. By this I mean to have the equivelent "Bastion" (medium sized skirmish, with some tasty capships), "Stronghold" (the main fleet of serco/itani), and fighter skirmishes. As an example (and ships/numbers/etc can all be changed of course) I give the following scenerio:
* conflict starts off with two large fleets in deneb, one (Serco) near the GR wh sector, the other (Itani) near the Eo wh. These fleets should be as massive as possible, a hac (or several), some connies, and lots of teradons.
* the fleets will send out some ships ahead of them, thus spawning new skirmishes in the direction of the other teams fleet.
** fleet sends out scouts in direction of opposing fleet till they run into the other nations scout and spawn a small skirmish in the sector they meet? a medium sized fleet a couple of sectors back from here, for once the battle shifts forward/back?
* every time a skirmish is won:
**the wining nation gets to secure that sector with a satellite turret, the main fleet gets it's ships back and moves ahead one spot on the map.
** the loosing nation gets to warp in new ships to replace the ones lost in it's fleet. But there's a catch, the fleet capship shields are weakened (energy costs to repair? morale?? whatever the reason), the same way the queen/levi shields are weakend after a loss (or maybe not? could just skip this or do something else).
** a new skirmish is spawned one away from the winning team's fleet, towards the losing teams fleet, if this is at a location where the medium capships were it's a medium skirmish, otherwise another small?
* eventually one of the fleets (or both) will meet somewhere in deneb for a massive Border Battle.

Main reasoning for such an approach is to make the battle seem more organic, where there is actually some semblance of battle-line, and pushing the battle forward/retreating. The above example is of course open to discussion/changes/anything? The main suggestion being simple to have a deneb war-fare that feels more like the dynamic hive warfare then the current checkerboard win/lose dynamic that is present.

EDIT: or maybe just model the deneb checkerboard on the game of life? to make it look more organic? :d

I agree. This would definitely help. Well, that, and Deneb not clearing every week. Kinda makes the border battles feel pointless :-/

To extend on this, the winner of the final conflict could take control of the system (including stations) till the next conflict. Maybe move Deneb O-3 station to Eo side of the wormhole first though?

Provide some special/unique gun/item (or free repairs or somesuch) in the remaining deneb stations, available only to the nation's POS (or maybe just admire?) military members... Thus giving a reason for each side to push the battle (both for control of the system for the following week (weeks? days? whatever)), as well as for the special item/gun/whatnot. Maybe move the remaining fleet ships to the hostile side wormhole (so serco fleet to Deneb/Eo wormhole, itani fleet to the Deneb/GR wormhole), only for the winner though (the other sides fleet is completely blown away/retreats)?.

Great idea, dunno why the devs didn't do this in the first place..
Make the 'main' fleet sectors respawn times similar to a leviathan spawn time.

Assuming this would not require reworking the whole frickin thing, lets have it implemented!

The station situation does need to be fixed first....

Having a great weapon availible in limited quantities to the military in good standing of winning side is an excellant idea. The nuet 3 is so-so and too easy to get without the win.

One way to make rank matter is to allow the senior officer to initiate the main battles and notify the opposing senior officer of it. If the opposing officer fails to respond then he could be demoted. Also the senior officer should enjoy a few special privledges like free replacement ships and free repairs....

Its good to be the king.

Aye , good points drazed . I think many of your suggestions are long term objectives, each increment seems to be moving that way .
