Cool project

I tried the game on my amd64 linux this weekend, and had a good time with my eight free hours. Won't come back though, because I don't want to spend so much time gaming that I feel it's worth the $9.99. It's not that it's expensive, I just don't feel like having that running cost. Paying once, play till I get tired of it, is more how I like it.

Actually, I might consider paying after all, just to support a native Linux game. I'll think about it.

One suggestion straight off. When buying commodities there was no way to check what they would be worth selling elsewhere. Except I could buy only one item first, then go into ship inventory, check what I could get there, and then go back and buy more. So the suggestion is, create a page in the PDA where prices or demand for different commodities are listed.

The game has a look and feel much like the game Freelancer. But Freelancer is more developed in many senses. What I like is way points, automatic cruising and automatic docking. Freelancer also had more variation in background and graphics. What I would give priority when it comes to graphics is the wormholes. Just having the HUD saying "here it is", is a bit boring.

In general the game could use some more content and variation. I like exploring, and there's nothing like a lot of space to explore.

I'm not sure what I think of the physics. In real space, it should be possible to just keep on accelerating without a maximum speed. With only the laws of relativity holding back. But that might be difficult to implement well in a game like this. It works as it is, but it would be cooler if it was more realistic.

The game had very few bugs. I saw some clippings here and there. And once a random spawning enemy had spawned inside a rock. Apart from that, I didn't notice any problems.

One more thing, the game was only using one core on my cpu. I would look into trying to at least separate major things into separate threads. Multi core CPU's are here to stay.

Cool project, keep working on it and it will be great!

You could always pay for a month, cancel sub immidietly (you can still play for that month, but you won't be charged again).

VO does lack a lot in content, because there are just 4 devs and there's only so much they can do, so it's going somewhat slow.
Most things you've said are on the way.

As for no top speed, it's cool in principle but have you considered how combat would look like at speeds way beyond your reaction times?
I heard that it was like that actually looooong ago in alpha but was changed to make combat more interesting.

We used to have no top speeds, as maq said. It wasn't particularly fun, and neither were 'speed of light' energy weapons, before you bring those up too.

There's a TON of extra backgrounds. You probably just haven't left you home system/s to go see them yet.

So, ya. More content is coming, but it's slow. 4 Devs DO have a top speed of content-production.
