TPG Cheetah

TPG Cheetah (taxi class):

I suggest throw this in a centurion hull (as it looks fast)

Armor: 4500
Weapons: 0S, 0L
Cargo: 0 cu
Mass: 3500 kg (heavy for a cent)
Thrust: 100 N (slow accel)
Spin Torque: 5.0 Nm (not very good at turning)
Max Speed: 80 m/s
Turbo Speed: 350 m/s
Turbo Energy: 50 m/s

Description: This is designed to be a taxi, not a fighter. No weapons ports or cargo, really slow accel, really fast top speeds. There is no way this thing will run away from anyone unless it is already at speed (will not get through border defenses, and even if it did it can't really damage anything).

All values up for discussion, the intent of this craft is to be really slow at getting to speed but really fast once at speed.

EDIT: adjusted thrust to 100N

Well I would actually suggest an Atlas hull (bigger, easier to hit, even looks like a "taxi") and then I would suggest a name change. It can't really be a cheetah if it can't hurt anything. I can't think of a fast animal that's passive yet doesn't sound really stupid (like TPG Ostrich) so you should probably just slap a technological-sounding serial name on it like TPG Atlas Type K taxi class or something. But I like the idea of a transport class ship that can't be used in sectors known to be hostile. What would be cool is if at some point a /passenger command line would be added for ships like this... Like /gunner but no turrets.

Personally, though, I would wait until the final Dev verdict on the Ineubis Jackal. We have made a lot of attempts of transport class ships lately (greyhound, superlight, and many more that didn't make the cut) and it might be a little silly if we got this many of them at once.

I don't see any reason (even if there were an Ineubis Jackal) for not putting this in. It really allows for more definition of ship roles... we don't have to worry about making other ships the travel ship if there's something like this around. I agree that an Atlas and new name would be better.

Also I know Inc has talked about a ship like this before... and I'm not really sure why we don't have it yet. Seems pretty easy and naturally balanced. I'm sure there were reasons, I just can't remember them. Miharu or Lecter?

Taxi ships have been suggested before. Nothing ever came of them, and rightly so, in my opinion.

Plus, we already have taxi ships now, with the turreted ships available, so this would be a superfluous ship, and we don't need more of those.

why the hell do we need a taxi you people are sofa king lazy it takes 30 minutes to fly around the galaxy nuff said QQ

Why do people continually suggest ships with speeds that exceed the desired speeds as mentioned here and more with further forum lurking and exceptional skill with the search function. ;)

Plus as mentioned here about ping times and physical location to the VO servers.

Surbius, this suggestion is due to part of Inc's presentation (linked in nearby thread) in regards to a way to allow players to traverse space faster without being able to sneak by border defenses with too much ease. The intent of this ship is to allow players to go much faster, but make getting up to speed so slow that pretty much any ship can catch it before it gets up to speed.

Wait... what's the point if this ship would take so long to get to top speed that it would either have been blown up or reached the 3000m jump point?

EDIT: And what is to stop someone from going out into the distance to speed toward a turreted WH at 350m/s? Infinite boost, this ship should not have.

Surb turbo speeds aren't really what'd be causing problems related to latency, especially with auto-aim being broken like it is.
It's the sub-turbo speeds and accelerations. (and this ship has so pitiful accel it really doesn't matter)

Now, getting past defences is another issue.

I like the Ostrich name:)

I don't see why anyone would want to fly an unarmed ship, and carry a passenger. Surely it would make more sense to just use a normal turreted Atlas (which is plenty fast, by the way) and enjoy the benefits of offensive and defensive capabilities, should the need arise.
