Oh boy, this can of worms. ;p

Dr. the form of governments actual definitions, no. The real world de-evolvement of those governments though make them similar.

Yes, but the Panama canal has to be maintained so charging a fee to use it is a sound model. Charging a fee for using something natural like the wormholes is not fine because it costs nothing to maintain or operate the wormhole. If it were a warp gate it would be a different story. What if the Panama canal was just a strait?

Can you give a better example of a tax that is 'fair' to impose upon someone that uses their own means of transportation through a medium that cannot possibly be created nor maintained?

You're missing a very important part, here. UIT does need to maintain their space. The fact that it is safe from pirates 99% of the time isn't "natural," they need to pay to monitor those sectors and maintain the turrets and fighters protecting the borders. Now if you take goods from one corporation outside of UIT and take it to another corporation outside of UIT while taking advantage of their now-indisputably maintained and funded route then don't you think they may want a cut?

This is an idea that would discourage cutting through vast sections of grey space via use of the UIT route.

Don't forget about your original motive and taxes might as well be everywhere, right?

Why are so many of our noobs functionally illiterate?
