add a /vote ban command

Creation of a /vote ban command would allow the community to self police. It could function like /vote mute but require a 3/4 vote for a 3 day ban of the player in question. This would establish a harsher and more difficult to obtain penalty to exist.

I would not trust VO players to police the community with "/vote ban" ever.
There is just too much hate and animosity toward certain players so "/vote ban" would probably turn into a game for itself. And once players get the taste of "ban" power there is no stopping them...

You shot me! Waaaaa! I will get my buddies and ban you! - quite plausible every day scenario .

yeah Bojan. Especially considering how "mute" happy we have seen the community be. Now... Back to sleep:)

As the community expands... this would be abused. horribly.
nice idea... but not gonna happen. /vote mute has been nerfed as is, but nevertheless is still effective.

Sorry PaK, I usually like your ideas but, this is up there with a vacation home in the Congo. Its literally one of the worst ideas ever...(as far as VO goes.)

I have to agree with Whytee and Bojan, this would be like trusting an infant with a nuke.

Aticephyr: This is most definitely NOT a nice idea.

Ostracism only works in groups of people of size 2 and smaller.

tosh... I meant nice "intent" rather... anyways, compliment sandwich, playing well with others, etc.
:p

Please note those that reject the idea....
We certainly cant add a mechanism to discipline those players that decide to ruin game play for the majority of VO users.....

Sorry but if the Devs want to keep out of this then the community needs to have a way to deal with the extremes of player behaviour. Sooner or later We will have to deal with a dozen or more sociopaths which will make even the most basic of events nearly impossible to run. Now is the time to establish player rule and work out the bugs.

Some people are incapable of restraining themselves and will happily destroy VO for their sole amusement. Pissing off 3/4 of the players to the point they will vote to ban someone is a monumental offense and fully deserves punishment. If VO is to survive then there must be a limit to player behaviour.

no. as stated by His Splashy-ness et al, the insuing Ban-fest would leave the verse empty save for VO-bank, and maybe IRC (but I doubt it), and whatever noobs smart enough to have stayed quiet.

While there is a need for the community to police itself, a /vote ban is just not the way to go. Here's an interesting alternative... if some one needs punishment, punish them.

For example, "Justice16" attacked me unprovoked in nation space. I hunted him down and found him hiding in a station. I offered him the option of coming out and losing his Hornet or being killed every time I saw him.

He came out and the situation was resolved. The problem was solved with no banning required.

Not to mention... when certain people have been muted they simply started a trial account and came back. The same would apply to a ban.

I note that more than 3/4 of the responses to this thread have been in the negative, and many of us would /vote ban you for being a stupid noob. So, feel free to grant us that power.

peytros' is sexier, but he fails for not hotlinking it.

banning is what we need guides and moderators for. Hence they can observe the "sociopaths" and report to the devs who can then ban. If you have trouble with anyone, report them.

I like the idea of babies with nukes:) Strangely appealing. Reminds me of RL somehow...

Guides would be nice but they do seems strangely absent.....

You all are right.... we should just ignore them and maybe they will simply go away....

Hint: if you ignore them, it doesn't matter whether they go away.
