Musing on ship customization
It would be interesting if certain weapon types could be modified by batteries, or other 'addon' slot type items.
Example;
'Duracell' Coated node battery
This battery has specially coated connectors for light wep ports, allowing for greater energy efficiency. Light weapons take 5% less energy per shot.
(Grid available could be tweaked per battery if people thought this needed nerfing for bigger ships.)
Icarus Guidance system
Inspired by ancient pirate tactics, this guidance system interfaces with light-class rockets, eliminating their proximity detonator. Newer rockets (Level 7 +) are more secure, and thus not effected.
(The point of having higher-level rockets not being effected is actually an afterthought- since it might become lame at later levels. The level cap is a balancing tool that could be screwed around with. More powerful rockets= Needs a better hack in order to eliminate the prox. If wanted, perhaps a lower-tier 'hack' addon could only reduce the proximity)
The point of this is, to find a balance between ship customization and "Skill" based gameplay. Since of course, part of being a good player in VO is to know how to properly equip a ship, this could be a very balanced and welcome addition to VO's gameplay. They'd also cost in the region of 15k for a low value addon (Maybe like a radar boost) to anywhere in the millions for something really good.
I'd place the value of the first one to be around 30k, and the second one would 20k.
That's considering how, Soon, ships and everything else would not only be worth more, but cost more.

The ideas here are cool. I like the ability to tweak a ship, so I'm down for this (especially if these items are widely available at faction stations). It makes it so people don't have to grind... but allows more interesting tweaking.
Probably not for production for the next few months... lots of other things on the dev's plates ATM, but I'm down for this.
