Haha, yes, these would royally fuck up an EckaTaur.
Maybe we should get them ;)

I am in agreement with those not in favour of this gun. I think Mecha put it well. I can't use rails that well right now because I haven't put in the time to learn. I don't think you should be able to use rails well until you put in the time to learn, and this makes that moot. And if you want to catch k'metreq, jump in a Hog 2 with a rail and learn to chase. Better yet, don't chase him because that's what he wants you to do and you're feeding the troll. As annoying as it may be, we don't need to put weapons into the game so that we can hit back at people who are obnoxious. There are simpler, better ways to do that.

Jesus christ. This isn't an anti-k'metreq gun. How many times do I have to say it? This gun is meant as a chase gun, more for the rats than the anti-rats. It may be possible to use it as an anti-rat gun, but that was not the intention of this gun. Read the damned description.

Sorry, I didn't mean it was specifically targeted at k'metreq, my intentions with that sentence were that there are ways in place already for effective chasing that do not step on the toes of other weapon classes. Like it or not, this would be used as a rail replacement, with only those already proficient plus a few purists choosing rails over these. After all, why would you bother training up on rails when you could use these and spend the time on killing people instead?
I do appreciate your intent in proposing this weapon, and I admit that my use of k'metreq as an example in my post was perhaps less than wise, but the point still stands. There are already ways to effectively chase, and this might well hurt more than it helps.

My apologies for my reaction then... k'metreq had been mentioned many times before... and I thought you were following that line of thought... moving on.
What, if anything, do you think could be done to this weapon design (or possibly future weapon designs for the same purpose) so that it would be more palatable (and not a rail replacement)? I could imagine a much slower bolt (say to 300 or 250m/s), with an appropriately increased prox-time-to-arm increase. Once the gun starts firing at less than 250m/s, then it becomes nearly useless I believe. It might also be possible to refine the prox even further.
Here's the thing. Let's take a MegaPosi as an example. MegaPosi has decent auto-aim, and it moves decently fast at 205m/s. Yet even if I'm turboing in a greyhound at max speed behind an atlas at max speed, the small bolt the MP fires has to travel over 4 seconds for every 1000m of distance between the two ships. Not to mention the MP bolt has a pretty limited range.
I'm not saying that a predator should be able to engage prey at 1000m. But at ranges like 250-500 meters I feel it should be possible to hit something you are chasing a couple times while turboing (assuming you have aim and all). Something to deal that final 10% to someone who tries to run away... or more importantly can deal a good 10-20% or so during the chase to warm them up for when you close distance (or fool them into stopping). That was the kind of gun I was trying to create. Of course, the gun has other interesting (and in my view limited) applications as well, but that was not the intent.

And megaposi does a fine job of just that.

*ahem*
Sorry to bump the topic, but this is a realy good idea! And at what point did he say he designed it to chase k'metreq?

Terrible idea before, terrible idea now. And won't be going in game. Get the damn concussion rail if you have such a hardon for this concept.
