Fix 3rd Person Mode Reticle - Crosshair Alignment
please?
I know no one actually uses this but uh, i noticed it was all kinds of messed up and I like to play with it occasionally >.>
I don't expect this to be popular.

Wouldn't this be a bug?
also, there are far more interesting things the devs could be doing with their time atm.
3rd person mode is just visual eye-candy... if its gonna be improved, I want FF redux first :).

true! but is it that hard to fix?
If you don't play anymore, why does it matter?
for what its worth, i would like to use the 3rd person view more often as well, just fighting like that is horrible. i know the devs are changing much right now, so i willl just wait patiently like i have been :)
No idea if its a hard fix. It's most likely code that hasn't been written yet, and 3d graphics code is always annoying (unless you are a math super-genius, then its just fine). But yah, I'll put my name for throwing this onto the "when we have some spare time" bug queue.
Well Incarnate told me to post it here :P
/me approves
maybe a lot more people would use it if it was properly aligned. I mean flying the ship itself in 3rd person mode isn't hard at all, it's trying to hit something with the unalignment of the crosshairs and reticle.
It's not actually misaligned if you think about it.
If you turn mouselook on you'll notice it is exactly in front of the ship (the other crosshair is just statically in the center of the screen but it doesn't really matter)
The problem, i think, is the camera.
If instead of constantly moving in relation to the ship it were to remain in one place it might make 3rd person view much more viable.

Well if it is the camera, then the red target lead reticle thinger, is based off the camera. as you can fly around a target and such and have the static crosshairs on the reticle and autoaim will not lock on and even if you fire anyway the shots are way off.
No autoaim is based on where the ship is facing, i'm pretty sure.
I'm not sure what you mean by static crosshairs, but if you mean the one that's always in the center of the screen, it's not what you should be looking at.\
Rather you need to turn on mouselook and look at that.

But not everyone uses mouselook or even a mouse.
Crosshairs would be the ones centered in the hud that never move. Reticle would be the target lead off thing. They don't line up correctly unless you're not moving. Probably because the camera aligns with the hud which is where the crosshairs are and the reticle acts differently. Since it's 3rd person mode and the camera acts wonky it throws everything off. You can have the crosshairs perfectly matched up with the reticle and the shots will fire no where near it.
P.S. mouselook is 4 newbs

Yea it doesn't align cause it's always in the center of the screen... and in 3rd person mode it's not the same as where the ship is pointing at.
Thus putting the camera in a fixed position and aligning the center crosshair with where the ship is pointing would i think resolve the issue.

I agree :D
I think fixing the camera to the ship would probably lead to a more accurate and intuitive 3rd person flight system. Right now, the way the ship swings about, it can be hard to determine which sort of effect your input will have on the ship.
So, Do the devs approve? >.>
Third person wouldn't be any fun if you couldn't see your ship from different angles. Fixing the camera would be boring.
