Character name change option
I have looked and not found so here is my idea.
How about adding a tab in the character selection screen that allows said user to change the "name" of his character. I can see how this could be abused to some extent but my thought on that is, make the option VERY limited. By that I mean it could be set to only allow 1 name change per payed account every 6 months or so. That is just an example but you get the idea. I don't know how many requests the devs get for this sort of thing but once it was set in place it could possibly save them some time and headaches.
Just a thought to mull over and since I thought about it I figured I'd put it to the suggestions so there you are.

I don't think this is necessary.
<---- Customer support link is right over there and up/down a few pixels depending on your resolution.
Use the "Game" category.

This would be nice, actually.
Perhaps a one time only (per character) nation change as well. Would be useful for those who start out as UIT or Itani and then see the error of their ways...
Thanks Doc
Yes I know that is there MSKanaka I was thinking something that needs a little less dev input is all. Dont get me wrong they do a great thing when it comes to giving people what they want when it comes to stuff like this and it may not take them any time to do BUT what would be wrong with makeing it even easier on them. It's nothing I personally plan to do just a thought.
Wouldn't it be better for some n00b that signed up for a trial account, never intending to stick around, that named his character *Cr0tch* only to find out that he was going to subscribe and doesn't want to fly around with that! name?
*no actual names were harmed in the making of this post

I'd actually like to see this as an in-game interface. Every X number of weeks/months, you can go to a capital, or Corvus if hated by all, and pay Y million credits to change your character's name. All other stats stay the same.
Good credit sink, nice way to move on if you want to change characters without grinding up a new alt, limited enough it won't be a constant thing.

Any sort of in-game interface would require you to log off and back on again before it could work. I think dynamically changing character names in the game, live, would be.. troublesome.
Anyway, I generally think the idea is interesting. It could save us some time. The big concern for me, as well, is the abuse issue of people changing names a lot.. but maybe a one-off thing could be feasible.

Yes, that was what I had in mind just a simple one time thing for instances like I mentioned before. There is enough other stuff that can get abused I'm sure why create more?
Now the Doc has a good point too if for your first venture into Vendetta you are a griefer or something and decide you really aren't fitted to playing that type of character everyone knows you as a griefer and most likely will continue to view you that way no matter how hard you try and change. I know someone is going to say "just make a new alt" well that's all good but like Lecter said it saves you from grinding up that new alt if you don't want to.

While I've personally asked the devs for a name change in the past (and received it thanks Devs), I have one thought on this, and it really isn't an opinion one way or the other.
How would this affect players real world reputations (not speaking of faction standing)? Basically what you may end up with is a player, for example Mecha, who has a formidable pk count, changing their name to something nobody is familiar with. Now, considering it's Mecha everyone would know who it was anyway, but say it's someone with Mecha's stats and Tumblemonster's RP ability (early Tumblemonster, not late Tumblemonster :P)? You would end up with a character who somehow racked up huge stats, but was unknown?
So, would this be a good thing or a bad thing? I don't know, I'm sitting on the fence. Perhaps this issue could be mitigated by a one-time change only if you've yet to reach a certain level?
Edit: In the interest of transparency, my name change was simply the addition of Ardgall to the name of my Gavan character.

I would think of this mostly as a convenience option, to let someone pick a new name (often because it's too similar to another well-known personality, etc).. not hide under a new identity. That's really what alts are for, and a name-change would be insufficient to hide very effectively, for the reasons pointed out.
I like this idea it would help ppl who wanted sort of a fresh start
I have renamed several of my characters, some of them multiple times.
The rename character feature is conveniently built into the character selection screen, but is a multiple step process. The feature also supports changing the character's faction.
At the character selection screen, select the character that you wish to rename, and then use the short cut key "d". When prompted for verification, type in the character's name. Your character will now be a blank slate, ready for a new name, and choice of faction. All previous statistics of the character will be voided, and you will be able to enjoy a completely fresh start.
IMO: All dev assisted renames should be posted in a stickied thread associating the old and new name. Dev assisted renames should not ever be "a fresh start", unless they are in effect equivalent to the method list above.

If you follow Roda Slane's suggestion you will lose all your licenses and create a brand new character with NO licenses.
