/explode-ing within some areas causes a loss of standing. Could this "feature" please be removed.

its not because of an active mission? if not where do u loose faction so no one does it until its fixed?

No its not mission related and it is not exactly a bug per say. It is simply a standing loss if done inside nation space. It is possible it is related to gaurded space but I am not 100 percent sure. I incurred it at Dau k-10 outside the NFZ and lost about 50 points....

How is that not a bug? You are only doing damage to yourself, and doing no harm to others. Unless you happened to kill another ship with your explosion... but that doesn't seem like that was the case.

I've exploded myself everywhere and never experienced this. Can you give specific stations or sectors? Must be something new.

Evidently UIT laws make suicide illegal. You should go to the capital station and appeal to the UIT council to legalise suicide.
