Are Itani with POS Itani and Serco going to default to Itani POS and Serco Hate (and vice versa for Serco)? Or will there be some sort of dialog asking which faction standing they would like to keep? I'm sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I just didn't see this topic covered before, and I would hate to have Vendetta choose which standing I keep for me.
Lord I cannot WAIT for this day.
Why wait? Drop the standing of your choice to Neutral today! I did it, and I've never been happier!
While the default for the Itani should be animosity on the part pf the Serco (or vice versa), it should definitely be possible to work hard to become friendly with both.
It may not be the norm -- it may even be very unusual -- but it should be possible. Rigidly enforced, immutable factions are obnoxious for a host of reasons, but the two more important (in my opinion) is that they are ridiculously unrealistic and that they stifle role-playing.
In no human society in history have two races or nations been so utterly antagonistic that not a single person was able to have friends on the opposing side. Never. Not even in the middle of World Wars, and not even at the height of the Cold War. There are always some people with ties on both sides. Always. Human beings are not chess pieces: there is no black and white.
One of the worst aspects of WOW is their faction system. It is not realistic, and it is antagonistic to role-players. Please do not replicate it in this game.

I agree with Scartaris completely, but uni-POS is an abomination and should be removed. I can see that liked by opposing factions can be an option, so yeah as you said Scartaris.
Ties, yes. But they were not allowed to see the most secret of all secret plans (or if they were the intelligence of the respective party was bad).
No avatar should be able to hold POS of two exactly opposing factions, be they minor or major. It's not realistic, either. Maybe allow them to be liked by both, but that's it.

toshiro: I agree. No Itani should be able to have POS with Itani and serco (scum). An Itani can be POS with Itani but at most neutral with serco (scum). UIT should have to make a choice too. They should be able to achieve admired with both but not POS with both. Every faction that a player can get should have to choose between Itani or serco (scum).
If I may poke the devs for input with regards original question though: will we get a choice as to which faction's standing we keep or will the decision be thrust upon us?
There is some discussion in the original RFC thread about this. UIT people will definitely get a choice of which standing to keep. Serco and Itani will likely be capped at a certain level with the other faction (perhaps Respect or Admire, but their home standing drastically dropping as a result), so I don't think Itani with Serco PoS will be possible. I'm not entirely opposed to letting people choose where they want most of their standing. But I think expatriate Serco and Itani, who side with the enemy, will be pretty reviled at home; so this won't be a minor choice to make.
Just a small reminder. In anticipation of Faction System changes most of universally POS players have been maniacally buying and stockpiling serco/itani nation specific ships so they can use them for gazillion years after new Faction System is implemented.
New Faction changes will not be complete or effective IF you do not instate a NATION KEY for using nation specific ships.
It is a very simple solution: nation specific ships can be unlocked and used only by respective nation pilots, end of story.
Exploiters that stashed thousands of valks and proms will have only one option: SELL!

And those of us who have just a few that have been stashed away for years, who would be pretty hard to label as "exploiters," will be very, very pissed.
A retroactive fix like this would be second only to a credit reset on the list of "Ways to Screw Your Own MMORPG Company."

This is nothing like a credit reset Lecter.
You do not lose anything.
You simply get a choice.
Sell Itani faction ships and get a lot of money for them and then buy proms or svgs or create Itani alt and fly valks.

You're missing the fact that you lose what you invested your time in (getting ships, distributing those ships)--credits are meaningless, while time sunk into in-game actions is very, very valuable.
I personally have a Serco character that is now (and has long been) Itani KOS, but keeps a couple of Valks and IBGs stashed around the VO map for their speed and combat ability; I also have an Itani character, now Serco KOS, with Proms and SVGs likewise distributed. Each character has well north of 200 million credits, so I could care less about being able to sell the ships.
Don't try and get cute with your claims about "not losing anything": have the balls to say you want to take away stuff people now have that you don't think they should.
Your last post sounds like some jackbooted thug at a nationalized bank, explaining that I'm not losing anything by being forced to hand over my gold for newly printed state paper currency.
If you'd like to implement this--and I have fewer qualms about implementing something that makes only the hundreds or thousands of horded ships scenario a nullity--it should be done in conjunction with a Gray market for faction ships: Corvus X-1, Corvus SCP, etc. Ding the stats by a tiny fraction, limit their color schemes, and put the prices in the 1-5 million credit range.
Otherwise, sod off.

For a final clarification, if an Itani character (with POS Itani/Serco) truly loved the Prom, and was willing to sacrifice his access to the Valk, and that pilot killed his Itani standing to dislike or below before the faction change, would he be able to keep some form of 800+ standing with the Serco (and therefore his access to the Prom) post-faction-redux?
If not, my character might need to request a faction-change (pre-faction-redux) from the devs.

Atic: No, there is no need to tank your Itani standing. If the option is available, that would all be done by the game.
We are generally not enthusiastic about doing character faction changes, either. We permit six different characters per user account for exactly this reason: to allow people to play on different sides and from different perspectives when they choose.

Lecter, I did suggest a Corvus black market some time ago, with corvus modified versions of nation specific ships (like in EV Nova).
THAT would keep everyone happy.

I should have thought that would be obvious. Yes, absolutely.

couldnt find the open faction thread....
One method is to adopt a "what have you done for us lately" method. Ie players would lose a few points of standing per day. you wuld need to make pos easier to obtain at say 900 or 950 standing and then do a standing loss of a point per hour. this should also be done from the kos end. Ie make standings forgetfull and move toward neutral unless the player actively helps/hurts the faction.
With 50 points of standing a player could only remain pos for 50 hours of playing time unless they keep doing good deeds for thier faction.

I am not in favor of needing to work just to stand still.
PaKettle: Hell no. I don't want to have to work that hard to keep my faction. I wouldn't be able to do anything else, just work on faction everyday. And what if i took a week off? It would be even harder. :(
