Hit beep not playing when close to target?
Wondering if there is a way to have the hit beep not play when you hit something within about 150m or so. There is an actual discernible and satisfying hit sound when you get close enough to your target but it often gets washed out by the beep unless you are right on top of them.
I'm all for keeping the hit beep at range but, up close, it doesn't seem necessary and may be detrimental to immersion. We all want to be immersed, right?

I'd suggest that it be an option.
The hit beep isn't a signal that you've hit your target, it is an indicator that you have actually done damage to your target.
Just because you can hear the "poof" noise coming from your weapons hitting your target doesn't mean you've actually done damage. Try shooting someone of your own faction (assuming you have good enough standing that the FF protection still applies), and you'll notice that while you hear the poofing, you won't hear the beeping.
Removing the beep entirely may help with immersion, but it won't help in combat because then it becomes difficult to tell if you've done damage if you aren't using plugins or repeatedly flicking your eyes away from the center of your screen to look at the target info in the corner.
I've been poking at trying to replace the beep for a while with other sound effects with a plugin, but I haven't managed to get it so that the hit beep can actually be replaced. (It still plays, and I can't override the sound effect.)

Making it an option would be adequate. Choice is good.
I didn't suggest removing the beep entirely, only when close enough that an alternate and less artificial sound could replace it.
