A galaxy/pvp idea for all 3 factions.

Before I start this post, I want to say that this idea is a quite obvious rip from Planetside, but I thought it would be a pretty sweet and immersive idea to storm about and perhaps incorporate into the game at some point. The other thing, before I start... Seen many posts in the forums get absolutely smashed without any constructive thoughts, just simple bashing. If you don't have anything constructive to say, or just want to bash, shut your freakin' pie hole and move on. Otherwise, if you have any thoughts on how to improve opon the idea, or ways to make it somewhat feasible to add at some point, that would be awesome.

Basically Planetside (PS) has 3 empires that fight over a world, the world being comprised of several continents that are linked by gates. I really liked Planetsides ideas and concepts, and think they'd be a pretty wicked addition to VO, and give pvp more of a point than just a kill count or shiny badge. All sorts of strategies would be thought up and used by different parties... I just think it'd introduce a really fun set of things to do. It would give a player/group/squadron/guild something to do that has a tangible result, something that they did to further the empire they are allied with. Goal of course, being to turn that part of the galaxy Red/Blue/Yellow :D

Anyhow, was thinking, leave the galaxy as it is alone, for those that don't want to do this, or so that they can level up, or whatever. But add a small set of solar systems, with a jump link to each factions home system, that can be faction owned but *players* capture the bases. Would need some kind of system similar to how the PS 'lattice network' works, so that any faction can't just go to certain key bases directly and take them, but instead have constantly changing front lines that push and retreat, etc.

Certain base types would render certain empire-wide benefits. Maybe a certain ship, or weapon, battery.. who knows. Holding multiple bases of the same type would give better rewards of that type. Just off my head, but mining bases could give a production of special mining beams, or maybe a special mining ship, or if the economy is ever fixed to a dynamic system (completely), those mining bases would add more resources for that faction. Of course traders could be required to move the resources back to home systems, or to deliver to the stations that produce weapons at captured production bases. Pirates would get some kind of bonus for killing supply runners, or something (I h8 pierats, but didn't feel it'd be fair to leave em out).

The possibilities are endless!! Maybe capships (player or NPC controlled once added) could be utilized for an awesome purpose. And btw, would give the transition for one sector to another that one of the devs was working on more tactical use than there is currently.

Anyhow, thought it would be a cool thing to at least think about for addition to the game at some point. I know it'd give you some serious die-hard fans! Heck I know about... 300 people in my old PlanetSide outfit (GotR), and maybe another 2-300 from friendly outfits (AT, LoI) that would at least try the game out if/when something like this was implemented... Sony Online Entertainment has been, and still is, screwing Planetside into the dirt by not listening to their playerbase, and doign whatever the hell they want unlike this game (just like they have every other title they have had -- SWG, anyone?)
