Guild Mission Statement

Dec 27, 2008 vIsitor link
While I was playing today, something occured to me.

It's awful hard to explain, in depth, what your guild is all about to a potential recruit with our limited chat options, and even more so when you have to repeat the same spiel over and over again. It'd be nice if you could just post your guild's mission statement somewhere accessible in-game where you could just direct people to read it. A new tab in the station would be just swell, but I'd settle for a command like /guild about "acronym" if possible. It'd be great for telling if that unfamiliar tag belongs to a new pirate guild, or a gaggle of miners.

While I'm on the subject, viewing the full roster of guild members, both active and inactive, from in-game would be nice too.

go to your .cfg file and make an alias/bind. if you need any help, just ask.

I believe that vIsitor is suggesting that this description be written by the guild commander, and it be accessible to all members via a simple command line (/aboutguild %playername%). Admittedly, if all members could be trusted, this could simply be posted by each player independently and prob solved, and in the meanwhile this is arguably the best option. But in the future, it would be a nice feature.

I like this idea. But i think he is suggesting another tab somewhere in game that all players can see with information about the guild. Not everyone wants or can easily switch to a web browser in game and check the vo site for info about a guild.

Or better yet implement some kind of limited web browser like they do in EVE. It would only go to the vo sight and be like a modble browser showing mainly text and links but no pics.

part of the fun about vo is that it still continues out of game. imho, i think the player should give a brief description and tell them to check out vo.com>player guilds. this lets them check out the vo site, check out what they put for their Guild Page and also the website they created for their guild. most guilds do not invite new members who have not joined up in their guild message board anyway. all players should regularly check the message boards, there is so much information here!

Flawed logic.

Yes, out of the game is important, but what you're suggesting is if I were to go to a company I know nothing about, them giving me their website, and telling me to go home and look it up. They're not going to to that. They're gonna give me rundown of what they do, a business card, and possibly a brocure. Sure, Walmart may not do that, but guilds aren't Walmart. They want customers. So they'll try to sell you the idea.

A tab would be good, a command would be good.

I like it.
