automating travel

Criminals are people too! The fact is, piracy is part of the game, and taking away piracy damages gameplay for a significant portion of the player base.

I don't have an issue with autopilot, I'd just be afraid to use it. I guess you could plot a circuitous route and then grab a sandwich.

Also, see "Autopilot": http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/7692

The only problem with autopilot is that it would give many people more incentive to AFK trade and stockpile (not that you can much anyway :P)...

Look, I personally would love this feature in game, however I just don't know how trustworthy people are these days. Maybe a safeguard to that is to only do one route at a time.. limit it somehow??

Hideously slow docking approach? No docking ability only travel?

With the forgiveness thing (If nothing is pressed is it auto forgive?) Getting killed while afk means you can't click the option to inflict faction loss on your killer which means they would still be capable to strike again. Using the autopilot would be a risk, anywhere.

Perhaps a wormhole from the serco/itani border to sedina might be discovered soon....

What about only working with ship under a certain cargo capacity?

dont know if this will help any, but you can do this:
/alias WHATEVER "navroute add Sector #-#; navroute add Sector #-#" and then bind it.
its not exactly autopilot, but it makes the plotting that much easier. for instance, i go to sedina b8 alot. but i also go to jallik & initros alot too. so i have ! and # set to take me from jallik & initros to sedina with a storm dodging course and vice versa. and when i do BP i have a bind that takes me straight to Deneb. it quickly got annoying when i had to press n then z then click on deneb then click on the sector. what a hassle. as far as full autopilot, i dont know if i agree with you. i think if you can just get up and walk away when doing an escort or a trade, thats way too easy. you have to work for you money! (even if working means sitting down at the monitor doing nothing because there is no npc resistance, heh, but that is another thread :)) not only that but you would be pirate bait, too. I for one would not like to see full AutoPilot.

The galaxy has been mapped. Many systems (if not all) have known routes around all ion storms. These routes are often saved to be later recalled.

At one time, I made a set of aliases, so that looking at a wormhole, I could activate the alias set and it would ask me the distance to the wormhole. At which point it would turbo to the wormhole, jump, turn around and turbo out, make every jump across the system until it arrived at the next wormhole, at which point I would have to manually aim it for the next run.

Having to point your ship and type a value once per system is already pretty automatic.

I have long since lost that set of aliases, and I just fly everything manually now.
