To the left of the text input field of the HUD chat window there is a text prompt which indicates the general active chat category (channel/sector/guild/group).

Instead of just "Channel:" for the standard chat prompt would it be possible to show the active channel number? Something like "Channel 100:" or just "100:"?

Yes that is very possible. When I get time I can play around with it and see how that will work out.
