Suggestion: Warp Zone
Currently in the game in order to travel from A to Z... you have to go A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H... so on and so forth. When running missions and moving around for different events this can be extremely time consuming. Especially when you have to actually go from A to Z. In most MMO's you have multiple forms of travel. Rater than just Wormholes, or just flight paths (wow), or just Whompah's (Anarchy Online) you have other forms of travel that allow you to LEAP across the map faster. Does it eliminate all travel? No, but it eliminates large amounts of boredom.
So... what if.. we put in something I'm calling a Warp Hole not in every zone.. but in SOME of the zones. Maybe a total of 4 or 5 of them across the whole thing. Like.. at A - K - S - Z.
Upon entering a warp hole.. you enter a strange place.. like a small zone. In this small zone are doors/gates to each location. A - K - S - Z. Now, you can easily JUMP across space without the boring worm hole jump jump.. ion storm... jump.. jump. (snore).
What's more? You can make this special zone very cool. You can make it faction controlled! PVP anyone?
So... everyday 2 hours opens up where you can enter the zone and pvp for control of the zone. You can have some kind of a kill-points system for the 3 factions in that 2 hour period... or you can have a "king of the hill" whoever has the most of that faction still alive in the zone at the end of the 2 hours.. that faction now owns the Warp Zone. Once that person wins, a special space station is constructed and the zone is owned by that faction. What's so great about having your faction own the zone? Well... you can charge a toll to ships coming through the warp zone, a toll that gets paid out to the faction whom owns the warp zone. If you don't want to pay the toll, that's okay.. you just run the risk of being blown up because you are now flagged as attack able when you come into the warp zone. Also, you always have the option of using the old Warm Holes to travel.
Each day of the week, at a different time, the warp zone becomes vulnerable. This way, no matter where you live or when you play, you can have a shot at winning it for your faction.
What this does for us as players:
1. Provides a "battleground" for pvp available every day for 2 hours a day.
2. A faster, better method of travel that doesn't leave the user feeling so bored.
3. It keeps the pace of the game higher, something that your combat system already provides with those lovely twitch dynamics.

interesting idea... but lolwut?
Get a centurion (the regular old crappy one) with a fast charge battery, and go from deneb to pyronis. I made the trip in under 10 minutes. Considering that that is more than 1/4th of the universe.... Id say that's fairly good.
Just thank your lucky stars that this isn't failgate, where a trip from solrain to octavius takes an hour.
That said, being able to travel from station to station in faction space instantly (without your ship of course) would be nice.

Great Idea! Such a place would be perfect to fight over a player owned station.
A shuttle system similar to what Forboding_Angel mentioned would be nice for inner-system travel would be nice, though I think just piling into a small capship and letting it do the piloting instead would make more sense, as well as adding in a larger ship for the rats to try and take on.
This warpzone idea is quite interessing tbh and it would, indeed, make long travel bit less boring (not that its actually _really_ boring to travel from Azek to Eo but well ... :P) and i'd then be able to join in special events without being too late evrytime :(
But you kinda screwed it up with that faction controlled idea .. Incase those warpzones would be just a longer wormhole (so just a natural effect of the universe) i don't think any kind of humain should be able to control it .. but pirates and pvp-players camping around would make it dangerous enough tho .. and if that camping happens, ppl would think twice before trying to use such a hole to travel the space: usual travel way would then become more interessing for traders travelling alone and escort missions would become way more interessing and dangerous ect...

Interesting idea, although I have mixed feelings about letting people teleport around the galaxy too easily (at least, if it subverts borders, factions, pirates wishing someone would fly by, etc).

Randomly appearing and randomly dispensing. I think it'd be woot to come across a floating glowing hole in the sky, fly into it, and explode out of someone's dashboard halfway across the universe. It'd make it interesting certainly, and isn't that what you wanted? To get rid of the boredom of flying across the galaxy?
TBH I prefer my idea of being able to move instantly from station to station in faction space a heck of a lot more than a warp zone (anyone else hearing "duhduh duhduh dunduh, duhduh duhduh duhduh, duhduhduhduh duh duh duh duhduhduhdduhduhduh, duhduh duhduh duhduh... etc" in their heads?).

Here is a hybrid of the 2 ideas. How about 1 warpzone per bit of faction space. 1 for uit space, 1 for serco, 1 for itani, and 0 for greyspace. Seems like that would be more interesting. But a warpzone is just begging for pirates to buttraep with no lube isn't it?
