Cameras and ship 'paper-doll' rotates too fast
We all might be used to it now, but it was a very immediate first impression, that the ship model under the Buy Ship menu rotates too fast.
My reasons:
Firstly, when trying out the different paints, it is hard to evaluate the effect of different colours when the object is rotating quickly between light and shadow.
Second, just like a character in an other RPG, the ship is the avatar of the player's achievement, their identity, and their existence. A player does not need to see all angles of the ship within 2 seconds, but a player might however, want to fawn over their great identity. If a player wants to quickly see one aspect of the ship they can rotate it manually. Otherwise, the purpose of the rotation should be for aesthetics, and while it's hard to appreciate the sight when it's spinning at a dizzying rate, a slow rotation would give it a more important, less disposable feel.
In fact, it might be so good as to put a rotate/not rotate checkbox in there.
Not exceptionally, hyper rotation also exists in the login screen, with the spinning space station. For the same reasons mentioned above, I feel it rotates too fast. The point is not to get a clear view of all the angles, but to create an effect, and even a rotation speed that would just break standing would achieve this much better. It would still bring the otherwise still image to life, but at the same time give it a much more majestic, unhurried and undizzying panorama.
Finally, the plugin "stationspin" also suffers from too quick a camera rotation, causing excessive distraction in the background. I suspect that is only actually because it relies blatantly on the same routines as are used for the login screen, but that's just a guess. What sounded like a cool mod actually makes me feel like reading in the car, quite sick. I think this just highlights the problem for the login screen.

Yeah. I wrote the stationspin plugin (at least the one that is available for download), and if there had been a way to set the speed of the rotation, it would have been added to the plugin.
As it is, you can turn it (the plugin) off or you can disable stations being visible in the background; otherwise you're stuck with that particular spin speed.
I'll poke around in the API and see if there's anything that could slow it down a bit, but I don't think I'll find anything.

If you click and keep mouse button pressed you can stop rotation of displayed ship and move it yourself to check it from different angles. When you release mouse button it starts spinning gain.
Heh , so you can. Just goes to show there's always something new to discover . Thanks bojan ...
Ok. Ticket made, change should appear shortly.
Woot! 1/2 rotation speed achieved, Captain... It feels much nicer, thank you.
Now, can I look the gift horse in the mouth and just ask for that "rotate"(/not rotate) checkbox, or similar device?
Pretty please?
:)
Actually, it's ok. A rotate on/off function would be way more important if, like the website advertised under "Vendetta Universe > Ship Appearance" that modding your ship with different equipment actually changed the look, similar to "pimping your ride". People want to get a good look at anything they're customizing, but so far it seems only the colour is modifiable. Secondly, I probably wouldn't use it that much until I could also zoom in and out, and because the one-axis-changes-the-other-axis controls for manually rotating the model are uber-difficult to operate in a predictable fashion!
Hmm I guess I just called out more weaknesses instead of saying thanks. Don't worry, I'm like that. Thanks for listening to everyone's comments, devs.
