Chess (VO-style)
Chess (VO-style): An ARCA module. Normal chess rules with the exception that capture of squares is determined by the outcome of PvP combat.
Using the standard 8x8 system grid, each side is given the normal complement of pieces per standard chess rules. Movement is as normal for each piece. Players control each piece as it moves.
Pawns: Centurion/Vulture
Bishop: Hornet
Knight: Warthog
Castle: Atlas
Queen: Centaur
King: Ragnorak
System could be laid out with alternating sectors of open space (black) and ice fields (white) to provide another layer of strategy. Full repair upon capturing a sector could be an option. Handicaps could be implemented with varying weaponry loadouts. Variations to gameplay could be implemented through changing loadouts as well - e.g., equipping the King with a repair beam. Betting on matches and being able to observe matches would be kind of neat to have.

Not really expecting this to get much of a priority by the devs at the moment, but I do wonder if it is something that could be coded with lua. In any case, if I could code worth a damn, this is something I would do just because I think it would be fun.
I understand that there is a concern that the core gameplay of VO needs to be established first and I fully support this goal. With the Itani/Serco conflict heating up (when Deneb becomes contested), Grey Space become more contentious and dangerous, and player-generated missions in the works, I think there will be plenty of character-based content to keep everyone as busy as they want to be. But looking forward, I think "mini-games" could help keep VO fresh and interesting for everyone in the long-term. Also, I think it may eventually be necessary to have a mechanism in place to separate character-driven gameplay from the deathmatch-type of gameplay to increase immersion in the VO 'verse.

King = SCP
Queen = Valk
Bishop = Centaur
Knight = Hog
Castle = Rag
Pawn = Vult/Rev C
My suggestion.

I think this would need to be some greyspace sponsored tournament event with money or weapons going to the winner. I don't think that Itani vs. Serco combat would occur like that. Other wise it sounds like an interesting idea, other than the time it wwould/could take, and the amount of communication.
Aye, it is an interesting idea for the future.
