Slipstream.. Exceeding top speed.

When I said that overall travelling speed would be higher, I did not mean to say that the leading ship would automagically achieve higher speeds, far from it. Instead, the trailing ships would have to overtake, one by one, and thus would be gradually building up speed. I have no idea if this would work in practice as well as theory, not having had the opportunity to try it, but I know it (the gameplay mechanic) works in Project Torque.

Yes!! I have a good idea, finally!

I like it as well. Would introduce a needed variable rather than the current cut and dried.

Any word on if there is any plan to implement this? I think this is one of the freshest ideas to hit VO, and I'd love to get this put in the game.

In place of tweaking the speeds, perhaps it'd be equally effective to reduce the energy requirement to boosting. If flying in formation gave you more power to use your weapons, energy weapons might become more popular in bombing runs, and light fighters would essentially need to stick together to intercept other craft; it adds a new dimension to group tactics.

My suggestion was, slipstream, when those are behind get a boost, but when they get in front, slow down to normal boost speed.

My point being to defeat runners.. And always give the person behind a little extra push.

This is instead of tweaking the ships stats..

I support Kierky's definition. It's what I had in mind, as well, apologies if that was not directly deductible from what I wrote previously.

I like the idea of being able to slingshot around things, so maybe a half grav field/ half ion stream system? IDK.

well I haven't really seen a reason to manuever through asteriods/around them, it would be cool if you could slingshot with their gravitational fields.

More depth to racing. I like Mynt's suggestion as well.

I don't think slingshots are very feasible. Multi-body physics is non-trivial.

I really like the slipstream idea. Why can't we go with that?

Incarnate would only be adding it to his Mile-long list of things to implement...
I fear trying to get the devs attention may be more difficult than I first thought when writing this article.

I think Incarnate does read the posts here, he just doesn't answer to them. So the chance of your post catching his eye are not as slim as you fear, I'd say.

I think Incarnate does read the threads here, he just doesn't often post to them. So the chance of your thread catching his eye are not as slim as you fear, I'd say.

Aye, It does have majority approval over disapproval, but as far as implementation goes... still working on how we could do that?
