Make high-end ships linked to PvP Status

Sep 29, 2008 LeberMac link
Alright, this got me thinking after I was talking with a co-worker who did 2 tours on the 'ol lady USS Enterprise.

One time, a pilot declared an emergency and ejected alongside the carrier, just because he couldn't land without some secondary avionics. This pilot was sent back to flight school.

Does it make sense that the Itani Military would give me IDF Valk after IDF Valk, even though I was getting my arse kicked at an incredible rate? Don't you think, at some point, they would say "Um... how about we send Leebs out in a Centurion, mmmkay?"

As usual, I'm too lazy to search the forums for a similar idea. Like an Itani must maintain a "10-kills-per month" of Serco opposing players in order to keep their IDF Valk status. Kind of like maintaining their license status.

Do you think it would make the elitist even MORE elitist? Or does it make economic sense AND give players a goal to strive for and maintain?

Discuss.

Seeing as how we're paying for the ships, it makes little sense.

Yeah. You pay for the ships, although its easy to forget that, since its so cheap.

Kinda my point. The cost is so cheap as to be free. Well, maybe not so with Valks, but still. The goal of striving towards and maintaining a X-1 Valk license or something might be interesting.

Look at it from the govt's standpoint: Who would they rather see piloting their best ships?

All of this might be sorted out with the dynamic economy.

Wouldn't they want the crappy pilots put in ships that would compensate for their lack of skill?

When prices on higher-end ships are adjusted skywards as Incarnate announced (ages ago) that he wanted to do, won't the new prices do this on their own anyway?

I would imagine that an IDF or X-1 suddenly costing upwards of ten or more times its current cost would make your "PVP status" more relevant to purchasing high-end ships as you wouldn't be able to afford to lose them in combat as often.

I have an objection to the kills per month requirement, as being part of PA, I am not "allowed" to kill ships of opposing factions without incentive. Thus, maintaining a high number of kills might only be achievable through b8 warfare, which doesnt really fit the whole best ships for the best pilot scheme.

just my two bits..

Why not raise the prices on the "high-end" ships to correlate with the actual superiority the ships have in their key areas. Now to go along with Leebs' suggestion about having a good kill/death ratio in BP/BS with whichever nation you are fighting for. If you are a piss poor pilot but love the Valkyrie, you pay full price, but if you are a superb pilot the nation you are fighting for sells the Valkyrie to you at a substantially reduced price. Same goes for the Serco and maybe the UIT if and when there is a BP/BS version for them involving another war.

I'm against this idea, firstly because I do not believe that there should be many more crutches (read: short-term fixes) that we'd get used to before the actual revamp.

Secondly, because some people (me included) perhaps do not have the time to rack up all those kills (it would be very time-intensive for me, since my pvp skills are really, really bad, so I would have to train a lot). Yet at the same time I would be paying the same price for a game I could not actually fully play.

To answer your question Leebs, yes it would make elitists more elitist.

Forcing all players into killing other players just to get and keep better ships is a bit too much.
VO is a MMORPG not just FPS game.

If the Itani government was paying for your valks, leebs, they could revoke your license for costing them money. Since you are footing the bill, it is more like a CEO burning through his savings on wrecking expensive cars into his garage. You're the only one who really feels the pinch.

Yeah but there's no pinch. Yet.

Oh, and I disagree with bojan on yet one more thing: VO is spacequake with a thin veneer of RPG. I rejoice every time it gets more RPG-ish, though. (CONTENT!)

Making the ships cost what they should (supply curve meets demand curve at _____ cr. ?) will probably make this idea moot. Forget I said anything.
