VO interceptor ships
It strikes me as odd that all designated interceptors in VO are actually unable to chase and intercept anything but the slowest cargo ships.
I can understand their high drain because they have fast acceleration capability but...
Let's take a look at IBG for instance:
220 speed
60 drain
It can chase for 10-15 sec but when you actually intercept anything, you have no juice left to shoot it down. Some interceptor it is. What are we supposed to do? Shake a fist at pilot we are chasing when we catch him because we sure aren't gonna shoot him.
Yea, I could equip a heavy cell and have some juice left to fire a few shots but then I cant chase thru sectors because of slow cell replenish.
This could be solved by cutting drain to 55-57.
Maybe we could really call them interceptors then.

Yeah, the addition of the ravens helped this a little bit, but pursuit still is and has always been dramatically more difficult than fleeing. A ship with low drain, 220 max speed, little armor and one small port could fill this role. Might even make a lighter variant of the hornet with only one small port, rigged for pursuit. Either that or make the turbo thrust on the biocom vult stronger.
Of course for balance purposes, any interceptor should be no more effective in combat than say a vult mk IV, but unmatched in seeking and destroying. This is what VO has always needed more of, role specific ships that are really good at ONE thing and not so good at everything else.

I've always considered the much maligned Raptor an Interceptor - light-class ship (3900) with high turbo speed (220) and low drain (54-57). It's lack of maneuverability matters less if you accept that it isn't a dogfighter. (Reminds me of the MiG-25 which was designed to shoot down high-altitude bombers.)
Yea i see, not going to happen... like any other good idea that stirs the muddy VO waters too much.
Thanks A.
Thanks A.
Energy weapons are not weapons for intercepting vessels.
Edit:
Due to energy consumption, energy weapons are a poor choice for vessels intended to be used for interception. Energy weapons are a great choice for prolonged combat far away from support, however. If anything, I would like to see more weapons geared towards interception rather than just make a blanket buff/nerf of various craft so that every weapon can be used for everything. Variety is the spice of internet spaceships.
Edit2:
Nobody can catch the damn TPG Atlas X once it gets underway, ugh.

the valk rune, pre-nerf, was the only capable and viable interceptor. had enough cargo to actually be useful and actually allow to pursue.
We have had limited success getting devs to reduce the drain on fighter/interceptor craft, Bojan. We could continue pursuing that angle... but in the end, we're going to need a big thrust boost for their turbo to make it matter.
