Turrets are ineffective
The use of turrets seems to be an ineffective way to guard intrusions into nation space. They were no sooner introduced than players had figured out how to either (A) Kill the turrets or (B) Evade the turrets with little damage.
I would propose that instead of using turrets, do away with station guards totally. Instead use Strike Forces to guard the stations and at the same time give the Strike Forces shields at 200% strength which would make it almost impossible to kill the strike forces. In addition give them better weapons that are not available to players and ensure that when and if they are killed they only drop Scrap Metal. That eliminates the harvesting of LAWS by killing station guards. In protected Nation Spaces for new players increase the number of the Strike Forces guarding each station.

I thought more on this and would suggest replacing Station Guards with Player Guards (ie similar to border patrol) except that I would still use the Strike Forces I mentioned only in defense of the new player areas around only the stations. That means a new player could still be attacked when at a wormhole or killing assaults to raise weapon levels. Therefore there would still be danger to new players even in protected areas.
That's kinda one of the basic premises of this game. You're not safe anywhere. No "n00b" zones. Full nonconsensual PvP at any time, anywhere. (Well, except in stations.)
