Wormhole Defense ideas
I didn't want to hijack incarnates thread, so here goes...
If it's feasible, there should be a few 'ionizing' cannons that essentially slow incoming vessels. It would serve a double purpose ; To exponentially increase every part of the defense mechanism, and it would also serve as a focal point for any attacker. Basically creating a situation where a group of pilots would want to attack in a strategic manner.
Example; They rush in and kill the ion cannons on the first wave so they can then bring out the bombers. The bombers would hang back and hammer the rest of the turrets while the fighters protect them from the SF (Larger ships would be less effected by the ion cannons then the smaller ships, but would still be unmanuverable to the point where SF could take them out fairly easily.)
That's one idea for a defense network.
Another thought would be to have perma-mines surrounding the entire WH. When you are KoS, the mines will blow you out of the sky; demining will make you kos. The Mines would be re-laid every hour or so (A smart person would come in as they are putting in a new field)
Higher level fields would have SF on patrol when they are remining, along with a dedicated mining team that would come in immediately after a field has been compromised.
In the new economy, you'd be able to starve out a station to the point where they can't buy mines and such.
Ideas? Thoughts?

Ion mines/field. No insta-kills.
That's my two cents.
That's my two cents.
Ion Cannons - they are heavy shielded, and bulky, and they effortlessly turn anything capital ship sized into elegantly sculpted asteroids. However, they need to be powered by Power Cores.
Power Cores - they have mighty shields which are vulnerable only to bombers. However, they are protected by wings of Strike Forces.
Strike Forces - they are designed to intercept bombers, and although they can be stalled for a time by fighters, they will eventually overwhelm. However, they need to be resupplied by Bunkers.
Bunkers - they have enough close-range defenses to deter any fighters or bombers, but are susceptible against long-range capital ships. However, they are protected by Ion Cannons.
So, the safe strategy is to launch wings of bombers to destroy the Power Core, with fighters to protect them from the Strike Forces. Once the Power Core is down, capital sized ships can safely enter to lay siege against the Bunkers. Alternately, fighters alone can attempt to wear down the Strike Forces through attrition, or attempt to bring down the Power Cores through sheer numbers. Bombers could go straight for the Bunkers, or attempt to disable the Ion Cannons. Not all of these things need to be in the same sector.
