1. Borders & stations, oh my! Fri, May 04, 2007

Nation borders in VO atm are only protected by station guards. Everyone not hated can enter any nation space and go wherever he wants and dock at any station.
How realistic is that?
In reality, you cannot enter nation controlled space without customs inspection and you can be refused entrance if you are declared *persona non grata*.
If you are a foreign national you cannot enter nation space in a combat ship loaded with offensive weapons.
You cannot dock to just any station unless you have some business there. We have capitol, commerce, mining, research and barracks stations atm. Mining or commerce stations can accept and grant docking permission to almost everyone. Capitol & Research stations can be more selective /accepting only pilots with an active trade guild mission/ and barracks are just off limits to foreigners.
You cannot dock to military stations if you are not a member of the nation military.

Imho, new faction standing/FF redux could go a step further and incorporate a better and somewhat refined border protection and station docking permissions.

1. Entering nation space

a) Nation citizens with normal or high nation standing
- entering nation space without any delay
- complete freedom of movement

b) nation pilots with low or negative nation standing and all foreign pilots
- hailed by border patrol ships with a request to stop for customs inspection and state business/intentions
- scan sweep of the ship and its cargo is performed and pilot has to reply with a predefined answer
- depending on pilots ship, weapons, faction standing, mission active and answer he can be granted or refused passage.
- pilots in warships with offensive weapons are a nono and are requested to leave nation space immediately /temp KOS trigger in 45 secs./

2. Entering nation station sector / docking

a) Nation citizens with normal or high nation standing
- freedom of movement and docking at Capitol, mining & research stations
- docking at barracks restricted for military personnel / nation pilots with a 25pk badge or some other rule or a mission tree completion can apply/
- non-military pilots can enter and move in barracks sector but cannot dock (exception to the rule: active mission to barracks station)

b/ nation pilots with low or negative nation standing and all foreign pilots
- "possibility" of docking at Capitol, mining & research stations
- barracks sectors and stations are off limits, upon entering barracks sector pilot is warned to leave immediately /45 sec. timeout until temp. KOS status/
- hailed by station control to state their business
- depending on pilots ship, weapons, faction standing, mission active and answer he can be granted or refused docking.
- if docking permission is not granted, pilot in question is asked to leave the sector and gets a station guard escort until he leaves sector

Implementation of a higher level of a nation space border protection and docking privileges can lead to some more interesting stuff like:

- border guard/customs inspection mission
- nation space guard patrol mission
- smuggling contraband missions
- black market
- bribing dockmasters/station control for docking privileges
- new widgets for fooling customs/ hiding contraband in your cargo hold
- maybe a few new ship variants for *border guardian duty* (with pre-installed ship/cargo scanner) and definitely some *smuggler*ship variants (with pre-installed contraband hiding device).


VO nations expansion into unclaimed territories Mon, Apr 23, 2007

It is only natural that VO nations would strive to expand their borders/influence by placing military outposts in unclaimed territories/greyspace.
Another possible major area of UIT/Serco/Itani conflict.

Ukari, Latos, Sedina, Odia, Bractus and Pelatus can be classified as unclaimed territories.
From a strategic point of view, control of certain resources and strong military presence in unclaimed territories is of vital importance to all nations.

UIT can try to reclaim and bring back some rogue factions, place new outposts in grey on their own, Itani can try to expand their influence in Pelatus, Bractus, Odia. Serco can try to expand their influence in Ukari, Latos, Sedina.

1. Alliances with rogue UIT factions like xang, tunguska & ineubis can be made for "protection" and shared exploitation of resources.

2. Conflict with rogue UIT factions that refuse warring nations military presence in their vicinity or conflict with factions that are allied with the opposing nation.

3. A new variant of border patrol/border skirmish missions in greyspace for all nations. /Control of strategic waypoints/

4. Protection of allied factions supply convoys and operations

5. Attack on enemy allied faction convoys and operations

6. Sabotage

7. Espionage

8. Joint resources gathering operations

Its a myriad of possibilities for new missions and exciting gameplay.

Imho if we introduce those badges and rewards players will go extatic with motivation to do ctc.

ACCESS TO AKANESE SYSTEM
Derelict cruiser located somewhere in Divinia. In station sector, empty or asteroid sector, whatever. For what its worth it can also be an existing Itani station in Divinia.
You enter cruiser/station, go to pda, there is a mission: *access to Akanese space*.
If your faction & standing matches, you get directions and a plotted course to Akanese wh location. Wh does not have to appear in the same location every time. It can be totally random.

SYSTEM
3 stations: research, barracks, mining. /old station designs from alpha & beta could be used/
No need for commerce since they are keeping low profile and do not have any kind of official trade relations with the rest of the universe.

SHIPS
- Akanese transport *Trabant* /EC-89 variant /
- Akanese Centurion *Dagger* /IBG variant/
- Akanese Valkyrie *Sword of Akan* /valkyrie variant/
- Akanese Bomber *Hammer of Akan* /if it needs to be an existing ship model then just make an enhanced wraith variant with 2L and 1S port/

GUNS
- Akanese gun *Annihilator* /variant of a nt3, lawgun, widowmaker or hive positron maybe/

OTHER
- nuke bomb /works only with a specific *nukem* mission/

FACTION
Serco: -1000 KOS permanently
UIT: - 599, max + 0
Itani: - 200, max + 210

Make Akanese admired by a few specific Itani stations.
Perhaps in Eo and Deneb since they saved them from Serco.

Itani could raise standing to respect and gain access to Akanese system by doing specific missions for Akanese faction /shady characters in a station bars missions would come in handy for this/. Altho no Akanese ships or weapons can be sold or used by anyone outside Akanese faction, Itani with respect status can trade and mine in Akanese space.
Also, Akanese should be able to gain admired status with some subfactions in greyspace, mainly Corvus or Tunguska.
Akanese are extremists. They are just not someone UIT should like, they are unrecognized as a nation/faction by the rest of the universe.
There should not be big procurement missions for Akanese. They dont officially trade with the rest of the universe.
When you deliver goods to station you are offered mission to take something back. If you accept it, your course is plotted for the return trip. If not, you go home the *usual* way.
Same would apply to Itani who gained Akanese respect. Only select stations will offer delivery or special delivery missions to Akanese space, like i mentioned, prolly in Deneb and Eo.

Trading with Akanese is a shady deal so it should be rewarded handsomely.

MISSIONS
Limited trade missions to greyspace factions and some Itani stations.
Akanese Basic & Advanced combat
Akanese Border patrol & skirmish
Akanese assassination or nukem mission
Mining missions

Was this something along the lines of what you had in mind bojan? ^_^

Also, might I suggest you add some UIT military stuff? Just because it isn't actively seen doesn't mean that it isn't there. Remember the UPK Zelor from those B8 Cap Battles way-back-when? That was a Peacekeeping ship; part of the Union's military arm.

No comment on the Akaneese stuff.

UIT are loose union of corporations but I agree, they should have some form of military force. Its all along that No. 1 suggestion (Borders & stations).

My suggestion No. 2 was based on serco/itani conflict so UIT point of view is missing.
It would be natural for UIT to try to expand and try to take control of rogue factions like Ineubis, Xang etc.
We could call it Corporate wars? hehe.
Along the line their interests will collide with Serco and Itani expansion into gray and voila... we have a major conflict, all vs all. Alliances, treachery, deceit, surprise attacks, hostile takeovers...

And for suggestion No. 3 Akanese... imho we really need some tough bad guys, political intrigues, shady deals, smuggling etc. It is a great chance for RPing and a good content addition to VO.

Everyone agrees VO is lacking content to keep players occupied on a daily basis. PPC guys doing missions is a drop in the ocean.

Read the damn suggestions and think of possibilities.
There would not be a single boring day in VO if it turns into something like this.

And the RP implications of Akanese space are great, I like it :)

Another thread necromancy.
Inc used some of the ideas presented here but never developed them to full extent of the suggestion, hence, some of the stuff written here is outdated since now we have cargo scanners, spoofers and other widgets but they don't really serve any meaningful purpose atm.
