messaging fixes

Jul 07, 2003 randomize link
If you played in last couple of days, vendetta has turned into one fancy irc room. I stress "one" here more than anything. Chatting is fun, of course, but when it floods other, more important, communications it's silly. Ignore can't help, because you'll be ignoring everybody but people on your capping team. I have thought about it for awhile and here's a couple of possible fixes:

1. global messaging limited to sector

My favourite solution. This way everybody who wants to chat can go to sector X and do whatever they please.

2. global communications costs 1000 per message

Good solution to make people think twice before spending 20 minutes talking in game instead of ICQ/IRC/Email.

3. no global chat, only direct comm between people and teams

Perfect solution, but maybe too drastic to chat junkies :)

I don't think these changes would be hard to implement, I would like to hear your opinion.

Oh oh! Lemming is here!

As most of you may know i played EverQuest, (yuck) and dislicked it, but they had a good way to handle chat.

If you right clicked on the chat console, it would turn into a option area, here you could:

On the left side you could change your default chat, this would change what type of chat you would use if you just used enter then typed, no commands, this could be changed to:
Normal
Team chat
Guild chat
OOC (Out Of Character)
Auction
Tell (there equivelent of our /msg)

Then on the right side you could change whether or not you received those types of chat, i usually blocked out OOC and Auction, this reduced flooding a lot.

But, due to the sixe of the EQ universe, certain chats had limitations,
Normal, just the current area you are in.
Team chat, anywhere
Guild chat, anywhere
OOC, current area
Auction, current area
Tell, anywhere

Mind you the EQ universe is huge, 6 continents, including the moon and the GM only area. (i always envied the GMs, mmm ring of invincibility)

Ahh yes, then there was a certain thing from lineage i liked, global chat, if you where level 40 or above you could chat to everyone in the game.

The devs have said they're going to change the chat alot. At the moment it's functional, that's all.

They keep editing that page! I read it weekly and there's STILL stuff there that I haven't seen!

What would also be nice is some form of macro where you could send a message to a targeted ship. "Stand and deliver or I'll blast ye from the skys", Jettison yer cargo and ye can go free, Arrr", or "I'm just a humble trader, I will comply your demands *whimper*" sort of thing.

I don't know about anybody else, but I have trouble typing whilst getting blasted by your friendly neighborhood pirate/defbot/what have you.

"Are you hostile?"

BLAM, BLAM, BOOM
Paedric was destroyed by "Player X"
or
Paedric is having issues (my personal favorite)
