Pillar of Society ideas
One of my characters has been gaining PoS's partly for fun and partly as part of the RP of the character (a trader that is loved by everyone and makes his living just trading) and I realized late into it how hollow it really is. So what? So a person who kills me gets a major faction hit. Big deal.
Shouldn't a Pillar of Society, someone who's proven themselves to a single faction, be given special treatment with that faction? Shouldn't a Serco PoS in the Serco Military be given special command missions, a ship or special weapon, things like that? Shouldn't someone who has all of the PoS's and a huge trading license be able to get special cargo hauling equipment?
And shouldn't you lose something valuable if you lost that standing with a faction?
So here's a few of my ideas and one of someone else's from another thread:
"DEPUTY": If you're PoS, you can get special military rights and priviledges unavailable to someone else IF you choose. You can only do this with one faction, so you should choose carefully. Losing this position due to faction loss will make you a hunted pilot until you somehow recompense for the bad action.
MULTI-STAGE: What about a person who gets all of the faction standings to PoS? I thought up something that would be nice. A mission where you go to each of the different factions for a piece to a manufacturing puzzle. Mind you you'll have to do this over and over if you lost whatever it is you're making, but I'm thinking a great trading ship of some kind, one that can really defend itself against pirates but isn't all that offensive. Hard but obviously not impossible to kill. And in order to make just one ship you have to go around to each of the factions to pick up a piece, something large that only fits in, say, a moth XC. So this isn't something easy to get or to get multiple copies of.
CORP SPECIFIC: Each corporation seems to have specialties. Why not secret access to things. You can only load it onto a ship at that station and it can't be removed. Or maybe it's the ship itself. So one might have nanite technology or light, regenerating shields for defense or repair. Another might have a prototype engine with a warning about pushing the top speed too long which is a turbo speed without the turbo. A third might have a built-in weapon of unique ability and design (been talking with some people about why the ion cannons don't temporarily shut down the ships they're fired on from electronics frying...). All kinds of things can come from this. Again, though, they would be unique and would have to choose one faction to do it with just like the DEPUTY idea.

NEW MISSIONS: Someone just posted this to the thread and it's a great idea. Shouldn't PoS's have more responsibilities? Along the same lines as the above, they should be given missions to earn the final rights just like missions to earn manufacturing missions.
SPONSORSHIP: I posted in another thread about how there should be not just race tracks but also racing missions like the Border Skirmish missions, say 4 times a day, where a player can race against other players as well as NPC's on the tracks. But let's take that a step further. Sponsorship. You're racing in a ship designed by a faction you've been sponsored by for racing. This should also assume that you've placed in at least one race prior to sponsorship. After all, they don't want to sponsor just any PoS.
SKILL SPECIFIC: Whatever you're highest in, that's the kinds of missions they'll want to send you on. Perhaps they want you to run the entire Itani space to deliver something very important as a trader. Or they want a gem that only comes out of helio mines. They want protection for an ambassador. Whatever. And each should have special awards other than just credit, even if it's just something cheezy. The players are into cheezy. Just look at the action figures being passed around lately :-D

yes...PoS status is pretty bland right now. I like the idea of special missions...trade, mining, combat, scientific...etc...etc...
for PoS. it would indicate more trust and responsibility imparted upon you by the nation/faction.

I think PoS is about to have greater meaning.
very cool but, does "about to" mean..."SOON"™, or soes it mean...within a short period of time?
I think he means the Friendly Fire thingy.
