faction loss...

it occurs to me...(after losing over 300 faction points)...that if a ship attacks you at a station, and you destroy it...you should NOT lose faction points. it seems odd to lose them for clear cut self defense.

Faction system is very basic and does need re-working (or re-doing). If a player attacks you at a station inside a no fire zone, you should be able to kill them with only temporary KOS (unless they are me, cos I'm great at getting folk to accidently shoot station guards) - however, if they are admired, and attack you outside a no fire zone - well, run away? Or better yet, let them kill you, if you also have good faction.

You might not like losing your ship, but hell, ask Ecka and John E, there aint no better way at stopping a pirate attacking you at a station, than making him KOS by said faction.

:P

Are you sure that defending yourself inside NFZ prevents permanent faction loss? I know it used to be like this, but I'm pretty sure the devs changed it? Can anyone confirm/deny?

yup...my TPG standing is at 606 where as it was over 900 prior to blasting the guy who shot me.

lol, Paz and myself were mining in an Axia sector within the no fire zone. Out of the blue(black I guess) comes DoR, kills us both! Tanked his standing to about -900

reign forgot to mention whether the "attack" involved the victim firing a shot AND hitting his ship inside the NFZ...

i was docking at the time. so i'd say pretty well within the NFZ.

No, did a shot he fired actually hit you? I've had all sorts of people shoot me after I shot at them in the NFZ, and then they lose faction for killing me.

Then they whine and bitch about how unfair it is that they don't really understand how the game works.

he actualy landed quite a few shots...it took me while to get the Rag turned in the docking port. I was down to about 30% of my hull armor. it only took 6 posi shots a a few missiles to down his Vult.

I didnt even bump him on the way in, he was just floating about 30 meters off my port bow, then when i was past him he opend fire.

Maybe they left the sector and came back before you undocked?

[edit]

At Smittens.

Only if they hit you first, inside a NFZ, then they become temp KOS, and you can kill em without faction loss, but if you shoot em in a NFZ, of course you will have a SF launched after you, its just temp KOS, but meh.

i actually destroyed them before i docked, didnt want to have to look at them when i left.

I have a thought on how you as a player might participate in defending yourself at a station: When you are attacked inside the NFZ, a SF is dispatched to your aid. (so far, so good)

Here is the suggestion: when the SF is launched, they read the faction standings of all parties who have landed shots so far (this is assuming you have been simply avoiding shots so far and have not returned fire) and send a message to those players that have been hit reading one of two things:

1) "%your name%, please seek shelter within the station and let us take care of this criminal."

OR

2) "%your name%, if you could help us eliminate this criminal, it would be much appreciated."

Thus the SF is telling you whether you will be fired upon for violating the NFZ or whether it has been condoned. Something that will have to happen will be to drop your firing authorization once the 'criminal' has been destroyed.

Edit: The kill should result in faction gain for said station. Maybe even combat XP...

The faction system is so incredibly screwed up right now. It needs a complete overhaul.
