The devs have a cool new way to make changes to the game. In the past year, there has been attention to balance, but this makes for a boring, static game environment. I say make some radical changes. Find out what happens if you have a 3 L port ship, or some such thing. This would provide the interest to come back to VO and try out something new. The devs can always balance the game again later.
