Backstory change

There is an entry in the backstory but I don't think its relevant, as you have made it clear that the appropriate equipment will never be introduced:

AD4431

An Itani defensive fleet, undergoing training exercises near the Itani-UIT border, reports contact with multiple Serco fighters of unusual configuration. Attempts at pursuit are thwarted when the enemy vessels seem to "disappear". The Serco government is unresponsive to inquiry. Behavior of the fighters suggests scanning for wormhole areas, perhaps an attempt at locating the Akanese base.

This implies cloaks. You said (correct me if I'm wrong) that you have no intention to put in cloaking devices.

Well, any comments?

The Serco ships had a nasty run-in with Cogentco and lagged out.

Could be advanced Stealth-Tech. The problem is that they never note how the craft "disappear" whether visually or electronically.

One, I suppose, could argue that Serco experimented with Cloaking Technologies but it was ultimately abandoned due to cost over-runs, and an inability to successfully adapt the technology to warships due to the size and energy requirements.

We're not changing the backstory.

Next.

Or perhaps they were just very damn good at sneaking away?

Okay, sorry.

Just thought that this was a bit of a problem, is all.

Please don't kill me.

What if they jumped into an uncharted wormhole?

I have never said that we would not add cloaking devices. I specifically wrote that into the backstory so we *could* have cloaking devices. We've spent a fair amount of time discussing the nifty graphical effects we could implement for a ship cloaking or de-cloaking. Plus, I advocate totally separate concepts of essentially "radar stealth" versus "visual cloak", each of which might have separate non-trivial power/grid requirements (making both not an easy thing to have, plus other ramifications of weapons having to be powered down or some such, blah blah).

There's lots of cool stuff I'd like to do in that direction, but that we have not done as of yet.

EDIT: There was a point in time when I considered that high-level Itani players, with the proper hardware (and training), might gain use of an Energy Focus (ie, a shield).. where equivalent Serco might gain the use of cloaking technology. There are lots of balance arguments to be had on that subject, which I have so far been spared, as we've been trying to make big battles and other stuff a reality.

Big invincible invisible battles! SWEET!

What does UIT get for it's nation? An uber battery with 60 energy per second?

Which really wouldn't be that bad.

cloaking should probably be somehting that dont draw much power when its off but an ass load when its running, 40 or so? then both radar and visual cloaking would work it'd just not work for very long, might be a good idea to make them l ports so we dont have people makeing stealth swarm bombers
