Auto mute plugin
I have been thinking about this concept for some time now but was wanting to get everyone's input on it. Say you can enter a username or some type of pattern matching criteria and it would match that with channel text then vote accordingly.
No.
It's abuse of the system.
It's abuse of the system.
No kidding. Imagine if everyone one of a certain group just logged their chars on even if they weren't playing, and entered the same criteria....
Your mute campaigns aren't going as well as you'd like them eh?
I actually see this several ways and been going over this concept for some time now.
One way I look at this I do not see abuse because the user with the plugin would type the command in anyways. So from that perspective it's not abuse if the plugin does something the user would be doing anyways. Also to mention it takes many more votes and if you have half the people online saying mute the person with either preset conditions or by manual data entry then said person is actually doing something the group does not agree with.
Another angle I see is abusive people objecting to something like this.
Yet another angle I see is it could be abused if the wrong criteria was entered in. Say I set it up for key words or phrases or common language pattern matches then that would rule out abuse in that case.
So am basically at a toss up here, I can see all sides and while anything could be abused it does not mean that it will be abused.

I full-heartedly support this idea!
Moda, since you're the guy constantly trying to get me muted for not saying anything (yeah, I have the transcripts) any kind of muting plugin you make comes off as abusive. What's to stop someone from configuring a whole guild to autovote someone whenever they log in?
Impavid; Nothing. You can do that already if you want, and I'm fairly sure some people have used before guilds for that purpose. This is a suggestion for something that is supposed to be used for constructive purposes. Since it's a plugin, I don't know if it should really be in suggestions.
As I said in IRC, you make it and I'll break it.
The mute system as a whole is an abused system. But let's not get into that...
Automating a feature that should require THOUGHT and FAIR MINDEDNESS and the human factor is just a bad idea and contrary to what the system was put in place for. It was put in place, frankly, because there aren't enough guides to police the populace, so the next best thing was the populace to police itself and not run lynch mobs (unpossible I know).

Maybe we should just abolish chat altogether and let our guns do the talking.
Seriously, if one player is annoying you just ignore him. No need to create some drastic all-powerful super-auto-mute. Sheesh. If I didn't know better I'd say that our friend blacknet's trolling...

from any logs i've read tumble you incriminate yourself further than you're accused. /vote mute has a time and place but it is over used and sadly some people tend to challenge people by bringing up you just wanna mute me or some such dribble and low n behold MUTED...
how about auto ignore instead of mute?
