Basic trader badge
Right now, this disgusting mark of a player's utter contempt for him/herself is bestowed upon a player who, as I understand it, either completed any trading guild mission or managed scrap together five thousand credits of profit.
My suggestion is that the sale of ships, ship equipment and cargo a player paid nothing for not be included in the five thousand credits needed to have this "achievement" bestowed upon you.
That way, a player could load up a neat ship configuration in a xang station as an experiment, kill a trader for the worthless cargo that trader was ferrying during one of the trade guild missions, take the whole package to corvus and sell it there without fear of being branded a trader himself. That'd be neat, eh?

Boo hoo.
... was my first thought. My second one was:
If I were a pirate (and you know I'm not, so read this with caution), I would want to appear as un-piratelike as possible when prowling. A trader badge might help in that respect. It's just like the bad body odour I somehow mentally connect with pirates (in all honesty, but no offence meant), you have to bear with it.

I think it should stay as it is to help discourage pirates and make them hate themselves .
well, if I were a pirate I would be like the ole Blackbeard, mad like a hatter, larger than life, huge ass beard with burning incense in it, at least two eyepatches, a pegleg, a hook and a parrot.
And I would seriously not care one iota about trade badges or the like. So I see your point genka.
Maybe the trade mission badge should be rewarded for trade missions succeeded instead of just items sold?

Pirates come in two varieties. The subtle "Holy crap, THAT guy is a pirate?" type, and the "HOLY CRAP, I'VE READ ABOUT HIS EXPLOITS ON 100 AND THE FORUMS OMG I WILL DIE!" type.
The second is noted for encouraging people to let their pursestrings loose for ransom, while the first is preferable if you wish to keep hunters off your tail.
Note: Neither largely impacted by the basic trader badge.

You also need to think about what that pirate did before he turned to such dangerous a profession, and how he got his liscense so high. If a pirate has a trader badge I'd be more inclined to like him, thinking that he came from humble origins and this was the only way he could make it in life. If a pirate didn't have a trader badge I would think he was more a pirate just for the sake of killing people not making a living.
