iPhone/iPod Touch Version <crazy>

This is a totally crazy idea, such as the Pandora port request, but bear with me for a second.

Using the iPhone/iPod Touch's accelerometer to provide steering controls (swiping to strafe), and tapping certain areas of the screen for weapons and turbo, and voice chat on the iPhone version........insane?

If so, at least it'd be an amazing gaming experience, and with the number of iPhone/iPod Touch users going up (especially with the 200$ 3G iPhone) the platform might be a great source of gamers, and it'd take VO to an entirely new portable level. Although, I'm not certain if the CPU in the iTouch devices is powerful enough, it may be strong enough.

I dont think the devs are going to make the full game run on a 400mhz ARM processor.

Im sure its possible but not without putting huge amounts of time into cutting corners to make vo run on that... thing.

Not that it changes much, but the original iPhone had a 620 Mhz chip, and the new one probably has a 750 Mhz chip.

Ok devs, now you're set to go! lol

If you try hard enough it's prolly possible to use said accelerometer and make the device (not necessarily ipod) emulate joystick.
As in don't run vo on it but control it with it.
Might be less trouble to use Wii controlers.

Also it maybe matters less if it's 400mhz or 600mhz but that it's ARM. It's really not comparable to desktop CPUs.
Then again quake 2 runs on pocketpcs, and quite fast on ones with dedicated gpu. (not that it really compares to vo)

I think the iTouch devices have dedicated GPUs as well as support for a version of OpenGL.....taking that into consideration, it could be very well possible. Of course it'd take time and all, but it could be something spectacular.

Heh. When I first got my iPhone last year (a week after it was released) I said on 100 that I was playing from my iPhone. It kind of went along with the hype that was going around with everyone saying "first post from my iPhone", etc... Peoples' reactions were certainly funny. A surprising number of people actually believed me. "OMGZ dude, that is soooo awesome, lolz", etc...

I think the iPhone would make a good platform for a slave client like Zathras suggested ages ago.

Indeed such devices would be perfect for it.

Btw i did play vo on my pocketpc... via vnc :P

The more I play with the Wii, the more I think I'd be willing to give up my trackpad for the wiimote and nunchuck.

Hmmm...
Would it be possible to play VO using the Wii's controls?

Probably, but you'd have to physically hack the sensor bar input, I think.

Maybe they can throw a version in that'll run on a TI-graph while they're at it.

Or, maybe we can increase the variation of image quality between lowest settings and raise the bar for maxed-out settings, so VO runs to the perfect tune of everyones computer, and looks great for that computer, no matter how old or new.

Nah, bringing the game to mobile phones is far more important.

Actually there's an open source driver for the Wii on OS X called Darwiinremote. It allows the Wii remote and nunchuck to be used on a Mac; the only issue is getting VO to recognize it.

This is an old thread, I know, but has there been any consideration of this as an option? You could make a client that uses a normal Vendetta login to access an account, so you wouldn't have to worry about billing. Alternately, Iphone only people could buy a new client every month to keep playing.

You could set it up to run only while connected to Wifi or 3g if latency is an issue.

There really is a huge untapped market with the iPhone.

They're so busy adding content and fixing things that I doubt they'd put much much thought into porting to another device right now.

Devs stated they wanted to add possibility to manage parts of the game (mostly guild management etc.) from website.
Beyond that i very much doubt there's going to be iphone or any other mobile device client.
It'd essentially have to be a new game.
