Automatic Log for commodities at different stations

Jun 07, 2008 MC1171611 link
I think that adding a log that automatically keeps track of what commodities are available and valuable at different space stations would make it a lot easier to trade back and forth.

(This is my first post here...)

Agreed. It should be available from the Nav map by clicking on any station you've visited (prices and items available updated each time you land, maybe for a modest fee).

Surely with some clever-ass work by some of the clever-ass folk still interested in lua haxing my original efforts could be somewhat modernized and made to work...

There are guild-specific plugins to do this.

There may well be slime , I couldn't possibly comment.

I'm against the suggestion MC , if a complete list were available then much of the fun of exploring the universe would be lost for players who like to explore. I suggest you buy a few samples of trade goods and start making your own list ; observe patterns.

Translation: TGFT put in a lot of nerd-time, doing exactly what the OP suggested, and we don't want to lose our investment, since this time-sink is what gets our rocks off.

Ecka, you've missed the point of the suggestion. You'd still have to explore and dock frequently to get the list in the first place and then keep it updated. The functionality would just be automated and integrated into the nav map--imagine that, in a spacefaring society! Try again, ass.

Also, player distributed plug-ins for multiplayer games suck huge, giant donkey balls. Sorta in the same way that rare/unique items conferring magic abilities do. Not that the functionality these things provide is bad, but those people who just want to play VO shouldn't get fucked by those who feel like devoting major time to writing/improving their plug-in collection.

Devs, FYI, I know you're all too poor and busy to do all the stuff plug-ins allow players to do themselves, and it's a cheap way for you to add functionality... but take what is best from them, make those publically available to all, and then crush out the ability for people to muck about with that crap... before you go doing any large advertising campaign. You'll be hearing the noobs' cries of HAXXZORZZ! all the way over in that frigid excuse for a state they call Wisconsin.

And I don't want to hear any of this "oh, plug ins don't allow you to do anything that's not already available to all" shit. I can start naming names and capabilities, if TGFT or Sigma would like.

That is a very flawed and very pre-alpha stage plugin.

Lecter, who said anything about having to dock and maintain things? Yes lets start naming names and capacity please. I would love to hear this info. Besides http://www.vo-wiki.com/racecar/index.php?title=API_Index makes it public to all to use, see and work with. You just need to know lua which is not hard to learn.

Need I remind everyone that structure of the game is not to gain gobs of money super fast but over a period of time?

It would be more of a user-based database, as Dr. Lecter said. I could keep track of that crap on a piece of paper, but that's too much more junk floating around on the desk.

There should be at least a simple GUI tab in the PDA inventory section or somewhere that details what's valuable at what stations you've already visited, and it would only update when you dock there again.

That would help make it easier for everyone...I can't remember all those weird commodities!

I will see what I can do.
