I was thinking about having it so that you can repair yourself as well as other people. like in the heavy wepon area have a repair drone. or have it so you have to stop everything hide somewhere and then repair the ship... just a thought.

I think if implemented they would have to have decent skill and ship requirements, otherwise they may brake the mechanics of the game too much. Just a thought/worry.

if it took all of your energy to the point you couldn't even use your normal thrust during repairs it'd be feasible due to the incredible vulnerability that would create

also if it took 10 seconds to restore power after canceling/finishing repair that way you cant just jump to power to escape the second you see an enemy.

that would add enough con to the pro to keep it balanced

Make the repair gun an actual "cloud" of nanites, and make it go slow and anything that flies through is repaired on a per second basis. Make it slow enough that you could shoot it then go through it, or have a bunch of people scrambling for it.
