PvP Suggestion

I've been playing the game for about a week now and have tried some PvP. Very fun and the gameplay is terrific. What I would like to see however is some in character point to PvP.

Apparently there are weekly nation battles, but other than that there isn't really a purpose to PvP (that I have seen), other than a bit of fun.

What I mean by this is I would like to see some kind of meta game where if one team wins at PvP they get some kind of temporary advantage, maybe a 3% increase in damage or something like that for their period of the win. Or perhaps that team gets access to certain parts of space that contain goodies only attainable there.

I was thinking of something perhaps along the lines of Planetside where territory actually changes hands, and overall score is kept between the different factions.

Perhaps you could capture stations for your factions personal use.
Anyway just a couple of ideas to help get beyond the "Arena Style" PvP that seems to be the source of most of the PvP action in VO.

That would relate to Border Skirmish.

Right now the majority of PvP in Grey Space is just a plain... vendetta. As simple as that. Now I'm sure some other PvPers can elaborate but it's kind of hard to get more incentive into PvP than just to kill those you have a vendetta with.

But what you state is a good start to brainstorming something good in the end if the line of thought doesn't get derailed.

ctc does exactly that but is played over a spawn of 7 days (rolling over on sundays). the idea is to capture as much cargo as possible for your nation and if your nation wins, you net access to the neut mkiii.

though, given anyone can stockpile, there's not much point to it all anyhow.

Isn't CtC PvE based though? I was thinking more "capture the flag" . Where you would have some object, a station, sector, etc. There would be several, you'd want to base the number of objects on the number of PvP'rs so the objects aren't overcrowded or vacant. You'd also want to make sure that there are enough objects so that one faction can't control all of the objects for very long, either that or some kind timed reset. Each object would have some kind of NPC defense so you can't just waltz in and take them.
Through some action, set of actions, or just occupying the object for a certain amount of time, you would turn the object to your faction.

There would also need to be some kind of notification system so when a station was turning your faction is notified when your holdings are attacked, and there is enough time before the object turns for people to say "hey we're being attacked, we'd better hot foot it over there"

You could even do something like PotBS is doing and when an object is attacked, it goes into contention and invites go out to anyone that contributed in throwing the object into contention. Then after a set amount of time after it goes into contention an instanced battle is automagically generated with an even number of players on each side that battle it out for control of the object.

You would also need some kind of Status board that you could view in game and extra cool would be on the Web too (ala Planetside), so that you could see the status of these faction c hangable objects.

I think this would help the game in the following areas:
* More group PvP, "realm vs realm"
* Easier for new players to participate in group PvP than 1vs1
* Gives players regular changing objectives
* Adds to the immersion in the game as factions actually control objects and/or territories that can be changed over by combat.
* Spreads PvP out across the map and is related to the storyline so there aren't just a couple of "Arena" style sectors where PvP'rs meet to test their skills.

Anyway that's my $1.75 worth. Hope it gets some gears turning..

well, ctc is pvp if anyone bothers joining in the fun. wich isn't the case at the moment.

there used to be (2-3 years ago) a lot of players involved in ctc. they pretty much killed it with the ship "balancing" (destroying) they done. like the rune and the aggresso being turned to useless hulls.

Or, maybe, guilds should stop being pussies, call off all their alliances, and declare war on each other. There's no motive for pvp like ego.

i think the Pvp badges should go 25 100 500 1000 2000 5000 and there should be a multitude of new ships and weapons available at each badge instead of making silly mission strings

You get Flare Immunity at 5000 PK.

I think one of the things I like is there are not too many "new ships". So I don't have to play the game for months to unlock ships that allow me to compete in PvP. I'm really not talking about long term incentives as rewards for PvP, but more of a meta game of "control the universe" or on a smaller level, king of the hill. Just giving access to better equipment because of certain badges or levels just turns the game into a grind fest again.
I'm thinking more of rewards that would be temporary and benefit the entire nation. Whichever nations controls all of a majority of the objects would get certain advantages. Or different objects could have different advantages. For example if your nation controlled a station you could get a certain type of gun there that no other station provided. Another would be if you control certain objects you get +5% damage when you are near the object, or it could be for all members of that nation at all times, that would get people fighting over it!

I guess what I am thinking of is something to draw the PvP'rs to different places on the map, but do it in such a way that it's not the same place every time and there's a nation reward for a successful conquest over a short period.
